The Common Room / Midwife or delivery records 1918 - Oundle/Barnwell
« on: Wednesday 23 October 19 14:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to trace a record of my grandmothers birth. Where would I find a midwife record or a delivery record of a birth in 1918 Oundle/Barnwell?

Not sure if a midwife would of travelled out from a location or a hospital. Not sure what happened back then.

Thank you

The Common Room / Ellen McGeary - cant trace her birth place or her ancestry
« on: Friday 26 July 19 20:20 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for my great x 2 grandmother for ages now. Thanks to the wonderful people here I was able to find her death certificate and children all out in India.

I have been doing my family tree and have no idea how to find her before 1880.

What I have so far:
Ellen McGeary (spelt on marriage certificate, death record and husbands service record)
She got married in Feb 1880 to Joseph Travis in Medway, Kent
She was 21 years old in Feb 1880
She lived in Pier Road, Gillingham
Her Dad was Thomas MGeary - professions = pensioner
Witness was Jane McGeary

Joseph and Ellen moved to Pakistan in 1881 and she died there in Nov 1896
There are 3 records I found for an Ellen Mc Geary on Ancestry and find my past ( I have both subscriptions)
1. Scotland - I checked this and it is not her
2. Wales - but father is different
3. New York - could be, but no record of her arriving here.

Please can you help me as I would love to know more about her.

Armed Forces / HMS Hood - used as Barracks in Gillingham Kent
« on: Friday 24 May 19 22:05 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my great x 2 grandfather Joseph Travis. All I have is a marriage certificate as physical proof.
His name was Joseph Travis, he married Ellen McGeary/McGarry in 1880 in Gillingham. On the marriage certificate his residence is the HMS Hood ( But not the famous one that sank). This one had the same name but was deemed not sea worthy, so was used as barracks for the Royal engineers in Gillingham.
He was then sent to India, where he had a few children and Ellen died.
Will the barrack residence be enough to find his details? There are so many Joseph Travis's that I am getting confused. I have got ancestry membership, but that is a dead end too.
Please can you advise what I could do or if anyone has information about the HMS Hood and its men who housed on it.
Thank you
