Armed Forces / Help understanding Naval POW records 1790s
« on: Monday 19 June 23 17:44 BST (UK)  »
I have two extracts (JPEGS) GBM_POW-GALLIP_15-0273_GB-SRY_ADM-103-NAVY-BOARD-AND-PREDECESSORS-P-204-CA-1755-1831_00007 happy to share/DM if anyone is experienced in explaining the column meanings e.g. Prize's name, how disposed of and by what order. I suspect my GGGGF is one of the prisoners mentioned, and I am trying to understand how and why he, from Guadalupe W. Indies would have ended up in the British Army a year later. Thx

« on: Saturday 04 March 23 15:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have a birth Certificate 1839 sub-district Lambeth Church 1st Part for a birth at 13 Bridge Road, Parish of St Henry's.   I am assuming it is Bridge Rd (the bit between Westminster Bridge and Mount St) which fits with Sub-district but thrown by Parish of St Henry's. Any help, background gratefully accepted

Apologies if I have doubled this, thought I'd submitted then couldn't find it. From Elizabeth's marriage, can anyone decipher where she was resident please, looks like Norfolk Street but there isn't/wasn't a Norfolk St I can find in the vicinity.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / help with Marriage Cert
« on: Thursday 02 February 23 20:44 GMT (UK)  »
Just spent a great day at Southwark Archives - terrific archive and really great staff - recommend it. Inspired me to dig harder. Can anyone help me with Charles' occupation and address please. I read this as a Tanner (makes sense in Bermondsey) and Gun Street (that bit is wishful thinking so be harsh if necessary), father William
Thx
