Suffolk Resources & Links / Framlingham Weekly News
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 00:17 GMT (UK)  »
Framlingham Weekly News, a valuable resource for the local historian, and full of fascinating items for all, is now available to view online - all 4,154 editions published between September 1859 and September 1939.  It was published as a Railway Gazette, with national and international news pages printed in London, and the Fram news and ads printed here on a hand press by Robert Lambert - and later on by steam power.

Lambert retired in 1896 and then it was taken over by Mauldens. In 1939 another change of ownership to the Lowestoft Mercury, but this was the beginning of the end, with the last issue published 30th September 1939. The paper remained at the price of 1d [now 0.42p] all its life.

The digitisation was carried out by Find My Past and the British Library - you can access it via FindMyPast if you already subscribe, or pay to view at

Essex Lookup Requests / Thomas Shore b Leigh (on-Sea) 1864
« on: Sunday 18 October 15 19:21 BST (UK)  »
Trying to help a friend in my adult ed class: we are trying to find her ancestor Thomas Shore who states on census returns that he was born in Leigh on Sea, Essex. Have found him in 1891 living with wife Annie Renyard and children in Southampton. Similarly he can be found same place in 1901, thereafter he disappears.

Have been going cross eyed today trying to find him in 1871 and 1881 census'.

From his wedding certificate to Annie he lists his father as James, (this is in a handwritten note from my friend, I will need to get a copy of the cert and confirm this).

If anyone has this elusive man in their tree, please share info, or if anyone willing to take up the challenge to find him in 1871 or 1881 I throw down the gauntlet  ;)

Any help much appreciated.

Essex / Potter in Edney Common, near Chelmsford
« on: Monday 24 August 15 18:44 BST (UK)  »
I am helping a Canadian friend with a British Home Children query.

We are looking for Elizabeth Potter who was born around 1870 in Edney Common.

She appears to have remained a single woman, but her three children were all sent to Canada.

What I am looking for at the moment is which parish church would have served the community at Edney Common please?

Thank you, SM ...

« on: Wednesday 25 June 14 15:59 BST (UK)  »
Greetings to all the Blomville/Blumfield etc etc researchers.

I am helping a friend who has a one-place-study of Parham, however he has bought a postcard of Blomville Hall in the next parish along, Hacheston. He wishes to know more about the hall and its' occupants.

Are any of you connected with this building or do you know exactly where it was in the village?

Completed Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Crane family, Northampton
« on: Saturday 20 April 13 09:25 BST (UK)  »
I have posted on Suffolk Look Up Requests regarding a friends great-great-aunt Emma Crane.  She was born in Northampton but arrived as a single woman in Framlingham, Suffolk where she became a successful Milliner in Bridge Street.

We do not know when she arrived in the county; have 'walked' through all of 1901 census for Fram and cannot find a trace of her, however she appears in trade directories for Fram as being a Milliner in the town in Kelly's 1901.

Interested to know if anyone else is researching Crane folk in Northampton (and perhaps has not discovered what happened to Auntie Emma)  ;)

PS I do have her at the shop in Fram in 1911
