its hghly likely that these dates have become muddled somewhere along the line

Hi,

Have you searched for John or Frances on www.dorset-opc.com?  Do you know what part of Dorset they came from?

Hi all
They were from motcombe in dorset and I found their marriage recorded on the onlune pairsh records there
amaria/amelia was a name that was given to me a while back from someone who found it on a cnesus record with the parents. the date of birth for this would be 1807. however, i am now doubting that the census information given me was for the right john and frances lear, as this would've made frances about 12 when she had her first child :S
estimated date of birth is 1783 for john. i found most of his information on www.familysearch.org as he and frances are listed as the parents of my DEFINITE ancestor mathew lear (one of their sons). I then searched the census records and found john lear to be in motcombe in the 1841 census. thjis is where the info has come from.
thanks for your help and patience with me on this!!!

It is possible that Frances Lilley was not baptised as a baby - the online records for Motcombe only show one Frances Lilley baptism, in 1795, so this could be the one who married John Lear.  Sometimes parents did not get around to baptising their children until they were older, and records don't always state the age of the child.

It is technically possible for Frances to have married aged 12 - this was legal for a girl at that time.  I don't know how often it actually happened though.

??? So I'm still lookin for mr john lear, two wives it seems frances lilley married 1806 in motcombe (taken from motcombe online parish records), aged 50 married to a Charlotte in 1841 census with my direct and definite ancestor mathew lear as his son. However, I'm still completely confuzzled and have no new or further info on this guy and worst of all I havent found many other people save one looking for him, which I'm sure you know makes pooling in info a little more difficult

any help at all would be fantastic before i completely give up on this guy and move on from the lear family!

Thank you very much

Jodie

Dorset / lear - possibly illegitimate? - very puzzled
« on: Monday 05 November 07 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
A while ago i put a post up about a man named john lear c.1783 (motcombe, dorset) married to a frances lilley c.1795 and also a charlotte (surname unknown) c. 1791. He had these children :
Amaria (or amelia - hard to make out on records) c.1807, james c.1810, elizabeth c.1812, mary 1814, john c.1819, thomas c.1821, william c.1821, mathew c.1822, frances c.1824 and mark c.1827
I have got all this info from census records and dorset parish records (online version)
However, U can seem to go no further with John Lear and am finding this really irritating and ont want to give up as there are lears in motcombe, dorset parish records from the late 1500's onwards!!! I know his parents must be there somewhere, but I can't work out how and its been puzzling me for nearly two years whilst the rest of my family tree is expanding!!!
I have found a piece of aper in my folder stating only this:
"John's brother James???? Mother Elizabeth Lear??? Illegitimate???"
Unfortunately I cannot recall where I got this idea from and knew that even then it was just a hunch.
If there is anyone that could help me solve this puzzle I would be so grateful!!
Thanks
Jodie

Wiltshire / NEATE Family (NEATE, ETTWALL, WORLEY)
« on: Friday 19 October 07 12:50 BST (UK)  »
HI

I WHILE BACK SOMEBODY SENT ME A CHART WITH THE NEATE FAMILY TREE ON IT GOING BACK TO A JOHN NEATE IN LATE 1500'S IN WILTSHIRE (I THINK IT WAS ALL CANINGS). HOWEVER, LOOKING OVER IT I THINK THERE'S BEEN A DISCREPANCY AND A WHOLE GENERATION MISSED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A JOHN NEATE C.1662 MARRIED TO JOAN ETTWALL C.1662, BUT HIS YOUNGEST SON IS LISTED AS JOHN C.1711 AND HIS ELDEST SON LISTED AS GEORGE C.1760. THIS WOULD THERE MAKE HIM 49 AT THE BIRTH OF JOHN AND 98 AT THE BIRTH OF GEORGE, WHICH OBVIOUSLY CANNOT BE RIGHT!!! IF ANYBODY COULD HELP ME CLEAR THIS UP I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL!

THANKS

JODIE

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / STONE
« on: Thursday 18 October 07 13:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help me find the parents and grandparents of rhoda, franics and kate stone

they are listed in the 1871 census and kates year of birth is 1871 and are all listed as granddaughters of the head of the household

the problem is that they occupy the first 3 pages of page 9 of the chirton census records

i haven't been able to get access to page 8 but would presume that the individuals listed on bottom of page 8 should be their family

i'd really appreciate any help that anyone could give

thanks

jodie

Family History Beginners Board / cant find a birth baptism or death record
« on: Thursday 09 March 06 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
im looking for a birth death or even baptism record of a john lear(born around 1782). Ive searched the motcombe parish online records but to no avail. id be grateful for any help. i know that he was in the census in motcombe in 1861 with his son mathew lear (b 1822?) and mathew's wife maria lear nee fox (b 1825). mathew and maria are the parents of my great great grandfather. i also know that he married a fraces lilley/lilly who was born around 1795 in motcombe. i figured that john was born in motombe too due to the high number of lears recorded in the parish going back into the 1600's. thanks jodie
