Europe / Is this surname Swiss?
« on: Sunday 22 October 06 17:15 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the origins of the surname Sarbutt.   There seems to be lots of variations of this including ...Sarbett..Sarbitt..Sherbet..sowerbutt & many more.

One of the Sarbutts in my husbands tree has Switzerland as his birthplace on the census.
I was not to sure about this until I made a new contact who has told me that the family story was that three brothers emmigrated from Switzaland to London (later to Suffolk).
Suggestions he has had include the name being Romansch or Romanian.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Suffolk / Emma PEAD - Aldeburgh
« on: Monday 14 August 06 21:09 BST (UK)  »
I have Emma  Maria Pead born 1854 in Aldeburgh Suffolk.

Emma married George Francis in Aldeburgh in 1873 . On the marraige cert her Father is named as Charles a Fish dealer.

This confirms what is on the 1861 & 1871 census.

Charles Pead born 1812, on 1861 he is married to Elizabeth, Emma is listed as a daughter so I guess he was an older father.

Now I am stuck!
I can not find a marriage for Charles & Elizabeth?
There is another Charles on 51 & 61 census so I am trying not to get these two confused.
No siblings for Emma?

I thought a less common surname would be a lot easier, I was very wrong!

Any info would be appreciated
