This is my first post here in over a year. Ive been researching my ancestors and family in Canada (Im in Australia) but have a brick wall with William Day; father Abraham, Mother Annie, brother Thomas b. 1880. No birth or death evidence but census confirm 1881 age 3 and 1891 age 13 he was born abt 1878. Also directory from 1900 shows him living in St.John as a labourer. No marriage but Birth Cert for his son with Edith Cowie in 1901, then death cert for infant Thomas 1901, no indication as to cause. I can find nothing further for William. I thought maybe we went to Boer War and was killed but no luck there; maybe he and baby died at the same time in an accident or from illness? No death notices or obits that I can find. Can anyone help me with this?

Australia / Mary J Carpenter
« on: Friday 13 December 19 03:50 GMT (UK)  »
Mary was born 14 Feb 1889 in Uralla NSW. She was 6/13 children of Job Carpenter and Sarah Billington. The family story about Mary is that when she was 16 she went to town one day and never came back. The belief was that she was living with a miner or ran away with the circus. Really? No-one looked for her or reported her missing? Would have been about 1905. I cannot find any trace of her other than her birth certificate. Can anyone help?

New Zealand Completed Requests / Maori ancestors. Help from NZ team please.
« on: Saturday 07 September 19 05:37 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with finding BDM records for two of my Maori ancestors. My grandfather was half Maori, born Uru Tawhana Kenneth (known as William Kenneth Bayne). His father was Kenneth Bayne and his mother was Whiua Rangi Takaroro (I have my grandfathers birth certificate which says her name was Whiua Kene). She was born about 1869/70 in Kopua; her father was Rangi and her mother Eme Turner Tana. My grandfather married Martha Matro Te Aute Ormsby (aka Maata Omipi) in a maori ceremony in 1923. I dont have any birth details for her. Both women (in bold) were from the Maniapoto tribe, I believe. I understand that children usually took their father's first name as their surname, but when there is more than one name as with Martha, I dont know which name to use. Also I think women dont take their husbands name when they marry. Your help would be greatly appreciaated. Thanks.

My grandmother was born in Sth Africa in July 1905; her mother, Mary Cecilia (Mollie) O'Sullivan was an Australian actress with the Pollard Opera Company, her father a Canadian boxer known as Tom Dingey (real name: Thomas Day). I have newspaper accounts (Trove) of both her parents (Miss Mollie Dingey) in Western Australia in Feb/March1906 and Boxer Tom Dingey in Brisbane Feb/March 1906, but no clue as to how they got to Australia and no immigration documentation for their infant daughter (my grandmother). Tom went back to Canada shortly after, maybe late 1906 or early 1907 (fact) with Mollie and child to follow; (again no passenger details to confirm) but Tom died in an accident (fully documented and confirmed) in Canada in August 1907. Did Mollie ever go to Canada? Passenger lists are so hard to search and I have exhausted all of the leads I can find. Can anyone help?

Family History Beginners Board / Archive Photos
« on: Friday 26 July 19 09:39 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know a good place to look for archive photos. My ancestors were sporting champions and actors/actresses in the theatre so there are lots of newspaper articles but no photos. I dont want to pay fees for access to sites that may produce no results.

« on: Saturday 20 July 19 06:40 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Edward Day was in South Africa in 1904 and married my gr.grandmother Mary Cecilia O'Sullivan. I have their marriage certificate and a birth certificate for their daughter Nellie Eilly Day b. 1905. Both certificates say he was Canadian but I cant find a birth or death certificate for him in any country. I have no other details. Any suggestions?
