Trapp 1880-1891

Many thanks.

World War Two / Tregantle Fort
« on: Sunday 09 May 21 14:45 BST (UK)  »
I have a reference to a WW2 army soldier who was sent to the Army Gas School at Tregantle Fort for a  ‘course of instruction’. Was it common for men to be seriously affected by the gas, resulting in hospitalisation?
Thanks! Salt

Armed Forces / Camerton Court, Somerset
« on: Sunday 09 May 21 09:07 BST (UK)  »
In my father's military record I have come across several references to Camerton Court in Somerset. It sounds as if it was a military hospital, but I can only find references to it as a country house.  Can anyone help?

Thanks, Salt

Mayo / The Great Padden Mystery
« on: Friday 07 December 18 12:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have a mystery regarding the two deaths of Patrick Padden, and I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Patrick Padden was born 21 Feb 1891 in Devlane, Clogher, Mayo one of 14 children born to Thomas and Mary Padden. He is recorded as the informant on death certs for both his parents. He died a bachelor in Sept 1957 aged 66, still of Devlane and is buried at Fallmore Graveyard. (Source Irishgenealogy.ie)

However,

Geni has a listing for Patrick Padden:
Patrick Padden , born 21 Feb 1891 son of Thomas & Mary Padden of Devlane joined the Connaught Rangers and died in France in 1916 where he was buried at Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery. (Source Commonwealth War Graves Com). His siblings are correctly listed on Geni.com but not on the CWG record.

Irish civil records only show one Patrick Padden born 1891.

Without the dob/family details  I am inclined to believe that the Geni listing is incorrect, and the CWGC Patrick is another Padden wrongly attached to this family.

Any suggestion gratefully received. Salt

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Dating an old Read photograph
« on: Monday 05 November 18 21:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I think the attached family photo was taken around 1900 in a Huntingdonshire village. There is a notice on the church door, and if anyone is able to see what it is it I may be able to make a better guess at the date and identify some of the people. A long shot I know but Rootschat rarely fails!

Thanks, Salt

FH Documents and Artefacts / What to do with my family history
« on: Wednesday 20 June 18 09:52 BST (UK)  »
As I tidy up the 7 volumes of my family history - retyping updated files, discarding unwanted notes, inserting new dividers etc-  i wonder what I'm going to do with it. My children are not really interested enough to find storage space for it, nor any other members of my close family. The 7 archive quality boxes are supplemented by photograph albums, photocopies of handwritten documents and CDs.

The content is the result of years of research and intellectual effort, as well as the expense of buying certificates (I dare not count how many) and parish register transcripts. One branch of my family consists mainly of ag. labs, the other records families responsible for the growth of the South  Wales tin and iron industry;  no landed gentry, some interesting emigrants to USA and Australia, a murderer and a bigamist.

I'm sure this hotchpotch is typical of many family trees, and I'm not the only one to face this problem. I'd be grateful for  any suggestions that don't involve the recycling bin.

Thanks, Salt
