Lincolnshire / Barnes family Rippingale
« on: Monday 20 July 20 19:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a brick wall:

Thomas Barnes (1754 - 1817) married Sarah Fardell (1759 - ) on 10/07/1783

I'd like to go back further than Thomas but come up with two possible baptisms in a 20 mile radius of Rippingale (nothing appears before that - I'm using FindMyPast).

Branston, Leicestershire
Sleaford, Lincolnshire

Does anyone have any connections to these?

Thanks

Hi,

I am looking for any information on the family of Eliza Coffey (born 1823), she married an Edward Perry, and they lived around the Liscannor area.

Thank you!

World War Two / Grenadier Guards in WWII - finding correct battalion
« on: Sunday 15 September 19 11:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I’m trying to find which battalion a Kenneth A. Gadsby was in.

This is what I know (from his stories, he died in 1995 - no one to ask now): he was at Chelsea, he fought at Normandy, Italy, and North Africa. He was a driver. I have his army number. He joined the GG in 1936 at Nottingham and left in 1946. Strangely, at least to me, he is in Skegness in 1939 as a Lorry Driver with his cousin (also a Lorry Driver) - perhaps extra work whilst on home leave? - I have no knowledge on this subject.

Thank you!

Lincolnshire / Slator/Slater - Whaplode & Saracen's Head
« on: Sunday 08 September 19 17:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a bit of a wall. I have a Jesse Slator (1803-1836) who married a Tyra Bowent (<--- really hard person to find too!). On the death cert for Jesse, it states 'Blacksmith' and on his baptism that his parents were William & Mary.

I cannot find anything else on the parents. I can find a LOT of Slators in Whaplode, suggesting a large family.

Research on the area (and blacksmiths) brought up a book on Saracen's Head which named the Slators as having a lot of children at the school (aprox. 1890s) and that the blacksmiths were run by the Slator family for some years.
