Canada Lookup Request / Roland H Dibnah, RCAF
« on: Monday 27 August 18 16:32 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone can help me with Roland Dibnah of Winnipeg, who was a Flight Lieutenant in the RCAF based in the UK during WW2.  He married Frances Younghusband in 1945, and they returned to Winnipeg after the war.  A son was born in 1949.

A separate record notes 19-yr old Roland Harold Dibnah (a printer) arrived in Liverpool from Quebec in May 1939 on the SS Athenia.  I am cautiously connecting these two people.

My interest is in tracing his ancestors, to discover how the name crossed the Atlantic, and when.

TIA, Peter

Other Countries / Russia - Dibnah
« on: Sunday 02 April 17 14:59 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace ancestors of Morris Dibnah.  In the 1911 census, he was living in Batty Street, St Georges in the East, with wife Esther, daughters Leah, Becky and Rosy, and son Sammy.  He is noted as born c1870 in Russia.  Esther and Leah are also born Russia (1872 and 1893 respectively).  The remaining children were born in London, from 1899 onwards.  Indications are that he was a bootmaker.

I have some subsequent information on both him and his family, but am struggling to find any information earlier than the 1911 census.

Any help gratefully appreciated.  [I have also posted this on the London & Middlesex board]

Thanks, Peter

I would welcome any help anyone can give me to expand information on James Andrew(s) and Frances (Fanny) Dickman, married in Uffington on 21 Jan 1795.

I believe they had three children (Mary, Susanna - briefly, sadly - and Thomas, my gggf).  Any further help with them or their ancestry much appreciated.

Regards, Peter

Essex Lookup Requests / Elizabeth from Tilty, born c1812...
« on: Saturday 24 April 10 16:29 BST (UK)  »
...married David Adcock, also born c1812 in Etwall, Derbyshire.  I'm hoping to trace her family name (and family, if possible).  I'm assuming that they were married in Essex, because their first child (Sarah) was born c1831 in Great Easton.

Further children were born in Burton-on-Trent (Ann, c1833) and Little Over (Henry, c1834).  By 1841 they were in Leicester, where they appear to have settled. They all appear in the 1851 census, which is my only source for the Essex connection so far.  I can't confirm the parents anywhere after that.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help me with more detail on Elizabeth.

Many thanks, Peter

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / George Iliff(e), Clipston
« on: Thursday 03 January 08 23:10 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me with easy information on George Iliff(e), b Clipston 1784?  I believe he married Sarah, and their son George was born 15 Nov 1807 in Aylestone, Leics.

I am fairly confiedent with the family after the move to Leics, but can anyone help me take George the elder backwards?  There appear to be many George Illif(e)'s around Clipston in the C18th, if you believe the IGI, but can anyone give me any structure for them?

Thanks in advance, Peter

Rutland / Robert Dexter - b Stretton c1837
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 21:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!  I'm hoping someone can help me taking Robert Dexter backwards.  From Census records he was in the Oakham workhouse at age 4, in 1841, also in 1851.  I have him living alone in Greetham in 1861, no sign anywhere in 1871, and then moved to Syston (Leics) with wife Rosetta (nee Winterton) and 5 children by 1881.

There's a suggestion that his father was also Robert, his mother Mary, but I have no firm evidence.  Can anyone verify these parents, and find any evidence as to why he ended up in the workhouse at 4 years of age?

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Bassingthorpe marriage
« on: Monday 26 November 07 22:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!  I'm searching for some events that would have been recorded at Bassingthorpe parish church.  They involve a family named Rim(m)in(g)ton, that lived at Westby.

Edward Rim(m)in(g)ton (dates unknown) married Ann(e) (dates unknown).  Their first child was, I think, Ann (b Aug 1776), followed by maybe 7 more children.  I have the children's baptism records from the IGI.

But can anyone give me details of Edward and Ann(e)'s marriage, which would presumably have been around 1774/5?  And, of course, anything of their history, including Ann(e)'s maiden name?

Thanks in advance,

Peter
