Occupation Interests / Glassblowers in Islington/Clerkenwell
« on: Sunday 06 March 11 14:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

My grandfather, Charles Worth, was a glassblower.  In 1901 when he was 20 years old he lived at 5 Sheen Grove, Islington, Middlesex, and in 1911 he was living at 32 Buckland Street, Hoxton, both times his occupation was given as glassblower.  His brother Alfred T Worth was a glassblower in 1891, but by 1901 & 1911 he was a thermometer glass blower.  He also lived at Sheen Grove, but had moved on to Clerkenwell by 1901.

As it is doubtful that they would have travelled very far to work, does anyone know if there were any glass making factories in the areas mentioned above at that time.  Also, is it possible to find out which factory these brothers worked for?

Australia Lookups completed / Sarah Isabella CASE (COMPLETED)
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 17:13 BST (UK)  »
Born on the 25th April 1846 in Sydney, NSW together with her twin sister Mary Elizabeth CASE and baptised at the Scots Church, Sydney on the 24th May 1846 to William CASE and his wife Sarah nee Tubby, both from England.  On the 7th Jan 1849 the twin girls, their mother now Mrs George FOWLER and a new baby Emma Sarah FOWLER arrived in Hobart aboard the 'Emma'.

Mary Elizabeth CASE married John Thomas HALL on the 31st May 1873 in Hobart, but does anyone know what happened to Sarah Isabella CASE?  The Halls ended up in New Zealand moving there in 1890.  Did Sarah Isabella go too, or did she stay in Tasmania?  Did she marry or did she die a single woman?  So far I have been unable to answer these questions - can anyone help, maybe some new ideas?

Hi

Am I right in thinking that there are no official records for stillbirths around the early part of the twentieth century?  The area would be Wood Green, Muswell Hill in Middlesex.

A relative mentioned that she thought my grandmother had a stillborn child sometime around 1912-1920, but knew no information about it whatsoever.  I was wondering if there was any way of finding out as all relatives who may have known have passed away.

I have checked FreeBMD (births & deaths) and will try full indexes when I can but thought I read somewhere that if the baby was born dead then it couldn't be registered.

Australia Lookups completed / Help with ship passenger Sarah Tubby
« on: Friday 25 July 08 19:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have been looking for Sarah Tubby for a long time now.  She was born in 1817 in Tottenham, Mdx. and appeared in the 1841 census for Scotland Green, Tottenham with her parents & some siblings.  On 1 Apr 1844 she married in the Scots Church, Sydney, NSW, Australia, so between 1841 and 1844 she emigrated to Australia.  I have tried the assisted and unassisted lists on the NSW State Records site (unfortunately they don't start early enough) plus lots of other passenger lists, to no avail.

Can anyone help with the assisted and unassisted lists from an earlier date to cover a departure in 1841 please?

Cambridgeshire / William Case
« on: Tuesday 25 September 07 15:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Does anyone have links to a William Case who was tried at the Cambridge Assizes in 1840, found guilty and transported for life to Tasmania aboard the Asia (6th voyage) in 1841?

There is a slim chance he may be the William Case I am looking for, but I need more information on him to prove this link.

Thanks.

Lancashire / Hannah Reddish
« on: Tuesday 25 September 07 15:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Has anyone lost, or come across in their research, Hannah Reddish who was born
about 1806 in Blackley, Lancashire?  Her father was Samuel Reddish.

By the 1851 census Hannah was married and widowed, her surname now Webber, and she was living in Tottenham, Mdx.  Her occupation was finisher of elastic webbing.

On 14th November 1852 she married William Brame Tubby at St Mary's, Bethnal Green, Mdx. and she died at the end of 1898 in Tottenham, Mdx.  On the 1861,71,81 and 91 censuses she is with William.

This is the extent of the information I have on Hannah, I have been unable to trace her on the 1841 census, either as a Reddish or a Webber, nor on the IGI.
