Armed Forces / Crimean War - Kings Royal Hussars - HELP!
« on: Wednesday 09 February 11 20:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I don't know if this is a total long shot, but can anyone help? I've been given two names of soldiers who served with the KRH in the crimean war, I have been asked to try and find out about the history behind them, but they have so very little info for me to work with.

This is what I have:

Pte H Heathcock - 11th Hussars

He was awarded a clasp on the 11th November 1856 for the siege of Sebastopol between 1st Oct 1854 - 9 Sept 1855, he received the medal for the Crimean War (date unknown) along with clasps for the "Battle of Balaclava" and "Alma"

Farrier J Barber

On serving with the 11th Hussars, he was awarded a medal for the Crimean war along with a Clasp on the 20th Sept 1854. He was also awarded a clasp for the siege of Sebastopol between 1st Oct 1854 - 9 Sept 1855.

On the 25th Oct he received a clasp "Battle of Balaclava"

This is all I have and have no idea where to look next, any help or direction would be so very much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Family History Beginners Board / Help!
« on: Wednesday 10 February 10 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!

Can anyone help? I am trying to locate someone for a friend and I enjoy a challenge! I think I may have found him on the 1881 Census, his name is Harry Strickland born approx. 1878 in Ealing, Berkshire, he is listed with two other people called Hiscock and next to his name it says "Nurse Child".

Can anyone shed some light on what this would mean!

Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks!

Family History Beginners Board / Help searching birth please!
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 14:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am not a beginner to family history but I am having problems using Ancestry.co.uk in the past I've been able to search births and when available the mothers maiden name would also appear, now it seems though I can no longer search births unless I search them on the free bmd; this doesn't give me that info.

I know there use to be another birth searching resource but I can't find it??

Can anyone help? I really would like to find a maiden name for someone.

Many thanks.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Help!

Hi

I am trying to locate the birth entry for my great grandfather; info as follows;

B: 05/08/1895 (based year of birth on death in 1968 aged 72 1 week prior to birthday) Paddington N; Arthur Duggan - but I can find no birth entry for him anywhere. I can find him on the census for 1901 living in London; 16 Rackman Street with his parents Charles and Alice Duggan.

I have tried also searching under his mothers name Parsons as his parents didn't marry until 7/12/1898 Kensington - but that is no use either.

I have found his marriage entry as Duggan in Jan/Feb/Mar 1922 to my Great Nan Ruby Adelaide Collins. Their children are also Duggan.

He died Arthur Duggan 28 July 1968 (strange the same day as I searched for it - eg., 20 mins ago!)

I also know that my great grandfather fought in WW1 (very possibly with the Royal Artilery) but I can find no pension record of him on Ancestry.

I am at a total loss of what to do next or where to look. My nan does not know of any family secret or any changes of name, etc., so she can't help me but is obviously curious too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

« on: Tuesday 17 July 07 14:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I've been doing my family tree for a couple of years now, but I recently moved house and had a baby so I've been out of touch on my family tree for quite a few months and I want to start it all back again, but I can't seem to find somewhere to get started or the motivation to do get onto it again and get that buzz that I used to get - anyone else been in this situation and where do I go from here?  :(

Scotland / Trying to find
« on: Thursday 12 October 06 09:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help?

I'm researching my Stewart family tree and am making some progress but I have hit a blank with the following person;

On Ancestry I found via the register of baptisms and burials for St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire I located a William Stewart who was the son of Frank and Catherine Stewart (My Gt. Gt Grandparents) he was baptised in Craigiedarg, Skene (I've never heard of this place and can't find anything on it) on the 26th July 1898, but I can't find him anywhere, I've tried searching for a birth registration on Scotlands people to no avail and also the census for 1901 - again no luck.

I can't even find his family on the census, his father Frank was a tinsmith and his mother could be put as Kate (as per their marriage certificate) there was also a son James Stewart (my gt grandfather) born in 1894 in Kintore and I have his birth entry and another son Alexander in 1901 (I also have this birth entry and the baptism features on the same index as William).

Frank was born in 1870 Towie, Aberdeen. I'm not sure about Catherine but they were the same age at marriage.

What am I doing wrong? Why can't I find his birth entry or any of them on the census??? I also don't know if any more siblings exist.

Your expert help would be appreciated.

Regards

Kirsten

Scotland / Help!

Hi

I don't know if anyone can help me? Perhaps I am doing something wrong  ::) I am trying to find some ancestors on the Scottish census to no avail.

The details are as follows:

Donald Stewart married to Grace Stewart, don't have many details on them apart that they would have been born 1850's ish, they have a son Frank Stewart B 1870 in Towie, Aberdeenshire, he married Kate McArthur or Catherine they had James b 1894 in Kintore, Aberdeenshire and they also had another son Alexander born Nov 1901 (too late for census) and possible another son William Stewart born 1898 again in the Aberdeenshire area.

Both Donald and Frank were Tinsmith's.

I've done numerous searches on Scotlands people but I can't find any of them at any time - strange.  ???

Any help would be appreciated.  ;D

Kind regards

Kirsten

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / What software would you suggest?
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 19:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Now I've seen what can be done to my photo's, I've so many I would like to get done, so what would you suggest as the best software to buy? I can't afford Adobe and I don't want to spend a fortune as I already spend a fair bit on my ancestry hobby!!!

I've seen Paint Shop pro on Amazon and not sure what version or the best price is to pay?

Is that a good package or can you suggest another - I think I could really get the bug with this and put it together with genealogy I have a match made in heaven!!!

Your advice would be appreciated!

Kirsten
