Armed Forces / Hubert John Hawkins - Service Number 31194
« on: Tuesday 12 January 21 03:18 GMT (UK)  »
Good day all,

I'm searching for information on a soldier for whom I have the following information:

Name: Hubert John Hawkins
Service Number: 31194
Regiment: King's Regiment (Liverpool)

I'm not sure where to begin looking for further information. I found a UK, WWI Pension Ledgers and Index Card card (attached) on Fold3 via Ancestry. However, I'm not having luck finding more info there - likely 'cause I don't know what to search for.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / No Idea what two words are?
« on: Sunday 18 October 20 22:49 BST (UK)  »
Here's the transcription - but I can't for the life of me figure out the two words in underline:

John Graham, Weaver in the Parish of Dunning and Agnes Hepburn youngest daughter of Robert Hepburn Weaver, _____ ____, in this Parish Gave in their names for Proclamation in order to Marriage. They were proclaimed before the congregation the two following Sabbaths and Married on the 20th day of January at Perth by the Rev. Mr. Finlay

Good evening,

Looking for help with a couple of items on this record:

Cause of Death 2: Coronary Occlusion and ____________

Manner of Injury: Mr. Marr Crawford fell down the stairs of the Vancouver Club and was ________________________________

Please and thanks :)

The Common Room / Baptism vs Christening
« on: Friday 07 August 20 22:43 BST (UK)  »
Good day all,

Please excuse my ignorance but I'd like some help on Christening vs Baptisms. Depending upon which website I choose to use, events are labeled as one or the other. For example:

Ancestry/Find My Past: Robert Meiklejohn was baptized on 29 May 1825
Family Search: Robert Meiklejohn was Christened on 29 May 1825

I've googled and relive i understand the difference but it seems that sites / others use the terms interchangeably?

I use the following naming convention from my media files

Surname_Forename_Middle Initials-event year-event type

and now have files that are identical but one is a baptism (BAP) and the other a christening (CHR)?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Alexander Marr's Place of Baptism?
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 22:48 BST (UK)  »
Good day to you all!

I'm trying to decipher the place of baptism for Alexander Marr who was baptised on May 2 1720. Father's name is Thomas. The place looks like Anugstown, Angriston, or something like that but I can't find it on the web?

Stirlingshire / St. Ninian's Churchyard / Kirkyard Gravestones
« on: Wednesday 27 May 20 04:53 BST (UK)  »
Good evening, at least it is here :)

Does anyone know of an online repository of the gravestones within this kirkyard and transcriptions? Or is there a reference book cataloging the stones and inscriptions? I know from Robert Meiklejohn's will that he was buried at the St. Ninians churchyard - I presume his wife Agnes was also buried there, and so I'm looking to see if there's an image online or a transcription.

Stirlingshire / identifying a farm and lands in St. Ninians
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 04:46 BST (UK)  »
Good day!

I'm reviewing the will of Robert Meiklejohn and it appears his father (also Robert) constructed a house/farm on lands described as, I think:

Easterhouse in the stowland part of the mains of Chartershall called Sappieside

I'm not sure and am looking for help trying to figure out where this is, what constituted the estate/lands, and if there's any remnants of this today? Aswell a map if possible?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Presbytery records for William Baird
« on: Monday 25 May 20 05:01 BST (UK)  »
More on William Baird that I can't figure out ???

So tantalizing when you can make out a few words but not the whole :(

From another record it appears William Baird had married prior to his relationship with Betrix Merry. They reside in Muiravonside. He's the son of William Baird & Beatrie Merry. This record is from 1694.

I'd love a full transcription including the margin please and thanks.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / my very own bigamist :)
« on: Saturday 23 May 20 22:51 BST (UK)  »
Here's what I've translated for Robert Baird's Baptism so far:

Baptized n: Robert, was presented by David Merry, as ___ in _____
Wm Baird was guilty of bigomy

P: William Baird : Beatrie Merry
W: Rott (Robert?) Baird; John C_____

Any contributions most appreciated.
