Europe / Suggestions for Monica, Berlin Germany born around 1940
« on: Saturday 16 January 21 18:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

So i've been told that when my Grandad was over in Berlin with the Irish Guards he had a baby with a lady, called Monica in Berlin.

I'm trying to find them with the hope of providing the information to my potential Aunt/Uncle on who their Father's family was/is.

I've got a photo of my Grandad & Monica that is dated June 1959 and they are at Cafe Stephani,Heerstr 22, Berlin.

I know she was German, and probably from Berlin, i don't know an exact age but my Grandad was born in 1939, so she's going to have been born around 1939/1940, a few years either side.

She's written on the back of the photo 'I love you so much, with all my love and kisses, your Monica'.

This is all the information i have and i don't know where to start as i've never had to do any research into anybody outside of the UK/Ireland.  Any suggestions on where to start looking would be great.

I've tried Ancestry with Monica, Berlin, 1939 (5 years either side) and can't really find anything.

Hi,

I have had my Great Grandad's death certificate arrive today, Alfred Richard Evans.

He died on the 12th June 1961 of a brain injury as result of a van knocking him over.

I have heard stories that he was a drunk, and he burnt all records and photos so i'm trying to piece together a bit of history about him.  I can see that he was living at Westwood Hostel in Peterborough at the time he died, but i can't find any references of Westwood Hostel in Peterborough online from searching Google and i don't really know where else to go.

Would anyone have any suggestions of where to look, I was wondering if there might be records of when he moved in to the Hostel and perhaps even a photo upon him registering etc (i know that's a long shot).

Thankyou for your help in advance, i didn't really know where else to look.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / James Norton | Born 24th October 1904
« on: Saturday 02 January 21 16:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find trace of my great grandad James Norton and have come a bit unstuck.

I know he was born on 24th October 1904, as it states this on the 1939 register living in Wolverhampton.   However, when I try to search for the same details on Ancestry the closest I can find is a James Norton born on 26th October 1904 in West Bromwich.  Obviously West Brom is down the road from Wolverhampton, and the 26th is only 2 days off the 24th so this could be the same person however a few trees have different information such as his wife which is 100% incorrect, I know my Great Gran's name as i met her a few times as a child.

I'd really appreciate any help with this at all.

Thanks,
Adam

Family History Beginners Board / Alfred R Evans - Husband of Elizabeth Bisbey
« on: Friday 06 November 20 19:04 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently looking into my Mom's side of my family.

My great grandfather is called Alfred Richard Evans, he was married to Elizabeth Bisbey.

My Nan never knew when her Dad was born, where he was from etc, because he wasn't exactly a model father.

She's now passed away, and we still have got no further with finding out who he is.  There's a few Alfred Richard Evans around the same time so i'm not sure which one is right.

I guess my question is, does anyone know a way I could confirm the right one?

Thanks!

Dublin / Loughlinstown Workhouse
« on: Tuesday 09 June 20 13:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi.

I apologise in advance if this is a daft question or has been asked before... but i've searched and can't find anything thus far.

My great great grandmother Kate Carr had three children in Loughlinstown workhouse, one of which William Alfred Carr - my great grandfather.

I'm attempting to find out who their father was.  My surname is Carr and it came from Kate's side of the family as the father is listed as unknown.  I'm very intrigued to know what my family name would have been in a 'normal' situation where the father was known.

However I have heard stories that the man who was the father of the children was potentially the man she married, John Butler.  I've also heard that the man that was the father of William was the man that ran the Loughlinstown Workhouse.

My question is, is there a way to find out who was running or working at the workhouse at the time of William being born, to try and see if there's any link to the family tree i've already got.  Perhaps it was John Butler, or he had some dealings with running it - but i don't know how to check this for sure.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Dublin / James Norton Born Abt 1855 in Ringstead/Kingstown Dublin
« on: Friday 03 January 20 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am fairly new to researching family history, so please bare with me on this.

I am researching the Norton family as my grandmother was a Norton.  We were very interested to see her family branched back into Ireland, as my grandad was irish too, a Carr.

All i can find on James Norton is census information for when he lived in Staffordshire, which says he was born in just Ireland, or Dublin, Ireland depending on the year census.

I can't find any hard evidence of where he was born or his story.

I did find in someone else's tree in Ancestry that he may have been in 103rd Regiment of Foot before 1878.

He passed away in 1910 aged about 54 years old.

I wondered if anyone may be able to point me in the direction of finding his roots and his family history.

Thanks in advance,
