The Common Room / Dunnikier - Parkland - Thomson
« on: Sunday 20 November 22 22:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
My ancestor, a John Thomson m. Janet SMith 10/2/1827. They emigrated to Australia in 1839 on the Moffatt from the Kirkcaldy-Dysart region where they were born and had 6 children.
At times they refer to themselves as of "Dunnikier" and at times of "Parkhead". I know Dunnikier was an Estate so I assume he may have lived in one of hte cottages.
Question: How are Dunnikier and Parkhead related? WAs Parkhead originally part of Dunnikier Estate?
Thanks for your help

Family History Beginners Board / Immigration AGe to Australia
« on: Wednesday 05 January 22 05:38 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know the required age around 1860-1870 to immigrate into Australia if you were not accompanied by an adult?

AT what age could you travel alone or have to be to accompany a minor?

i have some discrepancies in my history. I wondering if
- she lowered her age to avoid being in the unmarried quarters
- in another case he lied about his DOB to increase their age so he could travel.

Europe / Devers and German Butchers
« on: Thursday 30 December 21 07:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I have ancestors from Germany who were all butchers.

** Heinrich Devers (alt Henry, Davars, Dabers, Daevers, Daebers) - born c1790 died c1851 - Kingdom of Hanover
** son Christian Devers  (alt Hermann Christian) born c1820 Salzgitter and died 1898 Rutherglen Aust - emigrated to Australia 1858
** son Christian Devers - born 1851 Salzgitter (maybe Kneidstedt Village) and died 1924 Aust - emigrated to Australai on "Marpesia" in 1870 aged 16 (there is a german record that says he was born 1856 but he says in his naturalisation papers he was born 1851)

I am very interested in the training of german butchers had to do, where I could get records such as any Wanderpasses. Also I have a theory that Christian b1851 did not emigrate with his parents as he was already doing a butcher apprenticeship and maybe left before he did journeyman part of his training.

CAn anyone provide some good links of information and/or point me in the direction of records.

Thanks
Bec

Just wondering what others think this says. I believe it is Devars or Devers but I am especially waning to check the first names.

The Common Room / Kinkele or Kinkell Castle / Muirsons
« on: Friday 05 November 21 03:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
I have a relative, Kenneth Muirson (1821-1889) born at Kinkele Castle, Ferintosh, Rocshire. Is this hte same as Kinkell Castle near Conan Bridge, Urquhart parish, Ross and Cromarty county?
I believe his father, Daniel Muirson (1779-1848) lived here whilst a tacksman.
If anyone has any information on the correct castle and its estate, I would be really interested.
