Could someone please help me with the Personal Occupation entry in a 1939 Register?
The top line for Henry Draiseys Occupation is "Tobacco Operative ?????". I can't make out the last word. There is a strip of tape running the whole length of the page obscuring the last half of all the words.

« on: Sunday 20 March 22 07:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I've got the 1861 Census for a relative, Christiana Kendall, (Christiana Herdal as the transcript would have it). The entry is on line 2, Schedule Number 48, of the attached Census. Can anyone help me with understanding the small note above her "Rank, Profession or Occupation" entry of "Seamans Wife Mer Service" please?

The Common Room / Merchant Navy 1849 Ticket Record question
« on: Thursday 17 March 22 23:03 GMT (UK)  »
I've managed to find the Ticket of my Gt-Gt-Grandfather, James Kendall, attached. I'm puzzled by the entries. I can't read them so can't start to understand them, but it looks like one journey outbound in 1851, returning in 1853. Does that sound likely?

Family History Beginners Board / Birth Not Registered - Rose Weeks
« on: Tuesday 11 January 22 14:12 GMT (UK)  »
I can't seem to find the Birth Date of Rose Durnell (nee Weeks). I have the Census information for 1891 through 1911 that all say she was born in late 1873 or early 1874, in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England, which makes sense as all the family come from there, although oddly the 1881 Census says she was born in Wales. I can find no Birth details, Date, Baptism or similar for 1873 or 1874, anywhere. I've searched exhaustively in Ancestry and FamilySearch, and the UK Government Registry Office to no avail. I know when and where she was Married, and Died. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

The Common Room / Occupation: Seamans Wife Merchant Service?
« on: Friday 13 March 20 19:09 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me what this means please?
It's the entry on an 1861 Census where the woman is listed as Marital Status: Single.
Was there a job known as this? If she was "Single" then she coudn't have been a Seamens Wife, could she?
