Surrey Completed Look up Requests / census lookups
« on: Tuesday 09 January 07 06:28 GMT (UK)  »
i am looking for James Stephenson who married Maria Elizabeth ? (known as Elizabeth sometimes)

Apparently James Stephenson died around 1864.

Known children are

James born 1838 Bermondsey, Surrey  (he married Helen Alice Overgage in 1864 Surrey).

Not sure when but he come to WA and died in 1901.  I am currently try to figure out when he came to Australia.

James was written as a builder when his son got married in 1864.

I already have the marriage GRO number for James and Helen Overgage just looking for James and Maria? and maybe other siblings.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / William BYERS - where are you?
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 10:38 GMT (UK)  »
I will write down everything i know and see if he pops up somewhere????   One could only hope..... ;D

I have his sons Edwin Byers birth certificate from Nov 1846 at 24 King Street St Annes, Westminster.

Father is William Byers
Occupation Servant

He is not with his family in the 1851 census.  The wifes name does not state widow it says that she is a Butlers wife.  Edwin and his twin brothers Cameron and Walter aged 3 are living with the mother.

On the 1861 census he is still not with the family infact it still state that the wife is married but not occupation .  She has her son Edwin with her and is living with her father Thomas Peter Owen in Little compton street.  I think i have found the twins deaths there is one in 1853 and one in 1852.

If they lived in Little Compton Street, St Anne, Westminster where roughly could they have been buried?

Has Anyone had any luck finding a William Byers that is a servant/butler that sort of occupation?

How else can i find him?

Midlothian / James Millar of St Cuthberts
« on: Friday 05 January 07 07:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there

Just wondering how many James Millar living in St Cuthberts born around 1800 ish were Farm Servants/ Ploughman.  On his sons marriage in 1855 it states Farm Servant and on his sons death in 1892 it stated his father James (dec) was a ploughman and his mother may of been Mary ? (also dec)

I am having trouble locating the James Millar that i am looking for.  I have tried Freecen.  And i checked my old scotlandspeople.gov.uk searches and found 7 people ranging from about 38 up to 72 who might fit the bill of the correct James Millar in 1851.

Possible areas is Dalry parish of St Cuthberts which is apparently 1 mile SW of Edinburgh (where he son was born according to his sons marriage cert)

Later his son in 1851 is living in morningside which is 2 miles S of Edinburgh so around that general area.

How frustrating.

Midlothian / Millar of St Cuthberts, Edinburgh

I have got the marriage certificate of Andrew Millar marrying a Mary Kirkwood Laing on 1 Jan 1855.  Very helpful that it was that year.

Only problem is that it only states father.

How do i find out the mother of Andrew and possible other siblings.

All i know is in 1855 he lived in hope street, edinburgh. and that he was a fishmonger.  And his birthplace is listed as Dalry Parish of St Cuthberts.  And the father is James Millar a Farm Servant.  His age is state at 24 meaning he should be born approx 1831.

How do i go about finding him the 1841 census.  Is that one, one of the missing census's.

Is asking for a parish record going to yield the mothers name.  Is there a way of locating the information with minimal cost.

i am wondering if someone can try to see if they can find a match.  I have tried for hours trying different dates etc.

I have the childs birth certificate and the parents stated are William Wilson and Mary Ann Burton.

From the 1871 census RG10/147 ? 140 page 22. 28 Lomg Street. St Amme. Westminster, which someone kindly told me the detail i was able to work out that William was born abt 1815 Clevland, ? Stockton on Tee and Mary was born St James, Westminster abt 1826.

All the children were born in St James, Westminster so the likelyhood of the couple marrying there is quite high.

first child born to my knowledge is William born 1859
Then Sarah in 1861,
Mary in 1862
And Alice in 1865  All in St James Westminster.

Hopefully someone can help and try their luck  I guess the only other way is to try and locate them in 1861 and see if the birthplace is any different.

Hope i have supplied enough information.

The only other information is that they lived in 5 archer street, reg dist St James, Westminster, sub district of Berwick-Street in the county of Middlesex.

William in 1865 was a coachman, domestic servant.

 :o ;D

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / trouble finding maiden name
« on: Thursday 04 January 07 05:18 GMT (UK)  »
I have a person in the family which i have been stuck on for some time.

She married an Augustus Rands in 1888 in Surrey and from the 1891 census i see she has 2 children from obviously a previous marriage.  Their surname is Denny.

I cannot find any links of her marrying a ? Denny.

All i know is that she was born in Bromley Kent in 1860.

Can someone see if they can work their magic fingers.

Failing that is there a chance her maiden name is on her 2nd marriage certificate.
