England / Baskerville Family Tree
« on: Tuesday 19 May 20 02:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

I am having some trouble looking for my fathers biological mother. There is a little confusion with the first name as my dad knows her as Irene Woolley (also known as Rene) however the only information I'm able to find is Annie I Woolley and worried if this is incorrect.

She married George Baskerville (my grandad) and died when my dad was around 9 years of age so approx 1952. My dad was born 20th Jan 1943.

George Baskerville then met Ada D Morris and had x2 children - Lynda Morris and Diane Baskerville (also can't find any information about Lynda and Diane, they eventually moved to Cornwall with George and Ada).

Any help finding Irene(??) or any further information would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Tipperary / Searching for Patrick Hickey
« on: Monday 18 May 20 23:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have signed up to findmypast.co.uk but have come to a dead end when getting to my nan's father. He was called Patrick Hickey, born in Tipperary in 1890's (multiple Patrick Hickeys so this is where I'm struggling). He married Gertrude Smith - I think born in Widnes. I was interested in knowing history regarding him such as war records, accurate records of his children as there is some confusion with my mum regarding names that are coming up on the family tree and also his mum and dad as on Ancestry it began to show trips to America which confused me all together and I got worried incase I was beginning to confuse my family tree.

I know for definite one of their children was Joan Hickey as that's my nan born in Widnes, also James Patrick Hickey who died in WW2 who also had a 'half' brother called Arthur Mark Smith he also died in WW2 however unsure if he had a different dad or whether it was out of wedlock??

I'm also struggling to find information on Gertrude Smith such as her mother and father, brothers and sisters, children other than the ones mentioned. My mum says her Gertrude's mothers' name is Anne Smith (unsure on maiden name) but also struggling to find any information on an Anne Smith potentially being Gertrude's mother??

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Hi!

So happy I've found this forum as my mum's been wanting to know the official colouring of his uniform for years so hoping someone could help to re-colour the photo!

This is my grandad Jesse Cross. I do have another post asking for information regarding regiments etc as I'm confused with the service record book I have so if anyone could help with dates this photo would have been taken or any other information that would be amazing.

Seems like he started off in Heavy Anti-Aircraft, transferred to Highland Light Infantry then i'm guessing he was transferred to Gordon Highlanders as that's what it states on his service book? Also information I have received from this amazing site is that he joined in 1941 and left the army in 1953.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=831161.0 is my other post which has images based on his records which may help with re-colouring this photo and dates/further information.

Thank you!! :D

World War Two / Help translating Grandad's Records
« on: Monday 18 May 20 05:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

I have been researching my late grandad Jesse Cross. I am just wondering if anyone can explain/translate all the numbers and information on the attestation document I have attached please?

There is also a document attached  which states he was in The Royal Regiment Of Artillery in 1941, I'm unsure if this is the same as what is on the attestation papers as i'm clueless when it comes to this (I'm only 23 haha)

This is all I can find on him really, I'd also be interested to know more if anyone can help with what countries he went to, any photos, what medals he may have received such as the Burma star etc and also the colour of his uniform.

I'm unsure if I am able to apply for his medals, his next of kin was his wife who died so not sure how this works? His original medals were stolen unfortunately.

ANY help whatsoever would be appreciated as I'd really like to learn more about my grandad as he passed when I was 5.

Thank you :)
