West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / James ARTHUR Linlithgow
« on: Sunday 01 May 11 07:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks

James Arthur 26, a Slater from Linlithgow, arrived in Sydney NSW in 1856 on the Nimroud with his wife Margaret 25.  Their infant son James died on the voyage.  From the NSW BMD index Margaret's parents were Henry and Mary but I don't yet know her surname.  James parents unknown.

Their children's names (all born in NSW) were:  Margaret, Ann, William Henry, Mary J., James T., Alfred E., Frederick William, Ada Grace, and Jane Clinton.

Any help in finding their marriage and parents would be appreciated,

Thanks, Jane

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Samuel Armitage 1851 Hunslet
« on: Tuesday 15 September 09 06:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I'm looking for Samuel Armitage b c1822 Hunslet, possibly married to Mary (Hall? tbc).

I think I have him in 1841 with parents Joseph and Martha in Bell Row, Leeds, Hunslet.  And in 1861 he is a widower with 2 children (Alfred 8 and Sarah 2) living with brother George in Gledhill yard, Church St Hunslet.

If its the same person he seems to have remarried (Mary) and produced another family but I haven't been able to find Sarah yet.  Sarah maried Joseph Ingham in 1879.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Canada Lookup Request / Descendants of Robert DORMAN
« on: Saturday 14 March 09 00:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I received a tantalizing contact from a Canadian descendant of Robert Dorman 1863-1911 (GGM's brother) and Elizabeth Adams 1864 (GGF's sister) last month, but he seems to have gone to ground and has not been back on RootsChat since.  So now I'm looking for help to work backwards to fit him into my tree. Previous thread re Robert Dorman is here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,156938.msg2384401.html

My contact's family name is Donaldson and his mother is a Dorman.

Robert and Elizabeth had 5 children, all born in England:
Elizabeth Margaret b1883 m her cousin Harry William Adams b1881
Robert "William" b1885 m Alice Mabel Sparks (Most of his descendants seem to stay in England)
Herbert Edward b1892
Sarah Ellen b1892
Charles b1895

I have found a promising 2003 obituary in the Hamilton Spectator for Dorothy Pattison (nee CULP?) who was previously married to Herbert Dorman http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CANADA-OBITS/2004-01/1073262599.  But I'm not sure where to go from here.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Australia / Duke William PAINE
« on: Sunday 22 February 09 05:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I've recently learned that my 3G Gf's cousin Duke (name not title!) William Paine (par: Duke Edward Paine & Mary ?) came out to Australia with him in 1852 on the Mobile and headed for the Goldfields.  So I am looking for any of his descendants.

I have found Duke's marriage to Christina COMRIE in 1861 and the birth of a son Duke Edward Paine in Ballarat in 1862.  Duke William died in 1868.  Duke Edward married Teresa Bain in 1888 and their son Duke William Paine was born 6 Nov 1895 - he served in WW1 & WW2.

There is also a Duke Douglas Paine, son of William Louis Paine, b 1892 Ballarat, who looks promising, but I've not found any connection yet.

Does anyone out there have any more leads?

Thanks, Jane

Sussex Lookup Requests / Census Lookup PARKER - West Tarring
« on: Saturday 09 August 08 05:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

My 3G GF had a half brother William Parker b1814 West Tarring, son of Charles Parker and Fanny/Frances Paine.  Charles died in 1814 and in 1816 Fanny married my 4G GF Charles Parlett.

A William Parker married Elizabeth "Charlotte" Palmer in 1836 (IGI) and I have found one child Walter Charles Parker b 1841.  From burial records William died in 1855 West Tarring and Elizabeth 1872, also West Tarring.

Could someone find them for me in the 1841-71 Census records?

Thanks, Jane

New Zealand Completed Requests / DEWING New Plymouth
« on: Sunday 08 June 08 09:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi There  :)

This my first foray onto the NZ board!

I'm looking for information on Edward Bertram Maurice Dewing who was born in Horsham Sussex 24 Oct 1902 (par Maurice Dewing & Amy Edith Wallis) and was buried in the Awanui Cemetery in New Plymouth 29 Aug 1972.

Leonie Flemming Dewing (age 69) was buried alongside him on 27 Sept 2001.  Leonie Flemming Segol b1931 Narrabri NSW married Edward Bertram Dewing in Sydney in 1952, but its not clear whether Leonie is the wife or daughter-in-law of the chap buried in New Plymouth.  She could be his wife, although 50  & 21 is a fair old age gap (mind you my great aunt was 26 when she married her 52 yo husband).  But if so, was there an earlier marriage and were there any children?

I've found reference to Amy and Bertram Dewing's involvement with the Ba'hai faith in NZ but have yet to find when they came to NZ and whether father Maurice came too?

Any help appreciated

Cheers Jane
