The Common Room / Probate
« on: Thursday 21 September 23 20:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks, can anyone advise what exactly is Probate and what it involves.  I have found a Probate Record for a relation of mine but I know she died with no family.  Does this mean that her estate would go to the Government.  There are no names/recipients mentioned in the record.
Thanks in advance.

The Common Room / Abbreviations on Passenger Lists
« on: Monday 21 August 23 21:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, does anyone know what "Bha" is on a passenger list under the column heading "Country of intended future permanent residence"     Ship was arriving in Liverpool from St John's Brunswick.  There were 3 of my relations marked on it in the column for "Scotland" then bracketed together was "Bha".  Hope I've explained this properly!
Many thanks in advance

England / Burial place in Sunderland
« on: Thursday 08 April 21 21:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi, sorry for the vague title, but a bit complicate to capture in a title.
My relative was Scottish, emigrated to Canada in 1900s and served with CEF during WW1 then re-served in WW2 as Chief Steward with the Merchant Navy.  He died suddenly whilst the ship was in England and his death is listed in the England & Wales Civil Registration Death Index for 1916-2007; the Registration District is Sunderland and the Inferred County is Durham.   It gives the date of death.
Question: how do I find out where he was actually buried?
Apologies if I've missed anything out.  I don't have much more, other than what is given in the Death Index.
I have the ship name if that helps, suspect not though.
Grateful for any steer in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

Lanarkshire / "Glencairn", Rutherglen, was this a Care Home?
« on: Sunday 07 June 20 21:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi, just wondering if anyone can shed light on this for me.  My relation's death certificate had "Glencairn", Rutherglen as the place of death, and the informant of death was "Matron".  Many thanks in advance.
