Completed Huntingdonshire Look ups / Godmanchester info please
« on: Saturday 20 January 07 14:40 GMT (UK)  »
 Hello All,
I would like to ask for your help in trying to knock down a brick wall. Having had no luck in the direct approach, i am trying the sdeways attack.
Simon Battle has been found for me in Godmanchester, he appears to be related to Mitten Battle in Blunham ,Bedfordshire in 1820. Mitten is my 2 x great grandfather, but cannot find his parents, or his birth, hence the sideways attack. Both Simon & Mitten are married to Richardson girls, there are sisters Ann & Lucy, daughters of Samuel & Eleanor, who are I'm sure correct. I have the details of the family upto today, but could someone please light the fuse to blow up my brick wall.
All help greatly appreciated,
Best wishes Peter.

Armed Forces / H.M.S. VICTORY WWI ?
« on: Friday 08 September 06 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,
I have just come across a relative who died  on Christmas day 1916, the CWGC states he was on HMS Victory. I take this to be a shore Establishment. Has any one got info on it, my naval knowledge is limited, except for drinking the grog at midday.
His Name   K 36498 Stoker 2nd Class William George Haslett. details from his certificate of remembrance.
Puzzled as to why his unit was the Victory and how he died. Had he been transferred to the land base because of injuries or sickness?
Many thanks
Peter

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Looking for Hampshire Gates
« on: Thursday 25 May 06 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone,
Looking for the parents of my 2xgt gp Elizabeth Gates,
b.07-02-1808 in Holybourne, her parents are what I really need, I have no idea on them. Elizabeth married Thomas Arnold on 28 Apr 1831 at Holybourne. Thomas's parents & G/parents  & Gt G Parents lived in Bentley. but he was born in Holybourne.
If any one could help I would be very grateful, as it is difficult to get to Hampshire from Omagh. Although if I had done F.H. in my earlier days it would have been easy as stationed in Middle Wallop.
Many thanks for the interest in reading my story, and for any help offered
Peter
