Lancashire / John Heywood c1826
« on: Sunday 16 May 21 15:41 BST (UK)  »
I have John Heywood c1826 as the start of my family tree, and am now trying to find his father.  I have a few 'hints' but cannot clarify their accuracy.  He was married in 1850 at Cathedral Parish Church to Alice Heaton.  How would I go about finding out who his parents were?  I have had 'hints' that it could be John Heywood c1800 married to either a Martha or an Alice, or William Heywood c1794 married to Mary Maria Nayler.  I don't live local, so cannot get to check things in person.
Thanks in anticipation, Kath

Northumberland / Herron families from Blyth
« on: Monday 10 May 21 15:10 BST (UK)  »
I need someone to put me in the right direction to sort this out.  In 1881 I have two cousins living next door to each other in Station Row, Blyth.  One is William Herron aged 30 married to Elizabeth aged 26 with sons William and Richard.  His cousin William Herron aged 30 married to Elizabeth Ann aged 23 with a daughter Elizabeth Jane lives next door.  My problem is I don't know which Elizabeth is married to which William.  I know one of the Elizabeth's maiden name is Crosby, but I don't know who she married, and I just don't know who the other Elizabeth is.  Without having to buy marriage certificates, is there any way I can find out who married who?  I hope this makes sense.

Lancashire / Which Edith did William marry?
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 11:35 BST (UK)  »
I have another conundrum to try and sort out.  I have William Heywood 1878 married to Edith.  My problem is that when I look up the hints on Ancestry I have people saying that her name is Edith Copplestone 1880 and others saying that her name is Edith Pickles 1879.  They are also saying that all the children's names are correct for both Edith's.  Do I need marriage certificate to confirm who he is married to?

Lancashire / Who is John's father?
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 11:00 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out who John Heywood's father is.  John was born in 1826 in Manchester.  I thought I had found his father as William c1794 married to Mary Maria Taylor (or Naylor) c1804, but their son John was born c1835, then I found a John Heywood 1802 married to Alice Greenhaugh 1800 with a John around the correct date, but according the to census he never married.  I have John 1826 married in 1850 to Alice Heaton c1829 and are on the 1851 census as living at 19 Rollinson Street.  According to all he census they are the right people as I have been able to come down and verify all the children and their offspring as being related to me.  I just don't know where to look to find John's father and mother, and would be grateful for your help.

Lancashire / Henry Heywood 1859
« on: Wednesday 31 March 21 12:48 BST (UK)  »
I have Henry in my tree as the son of John Heywood c1826 and Alice Heaton c1828.  I initially had him as being dcd in 1861, but I have come to learn recently that a Henry Heywood married Miriam Roylance and had children.  I am unable to look up local things as I live the other side of the country.  Could anyone help me out with this?  I have found another Henry born around the same time in other census reports, but his father had a different name, and I cannot seem to find him after the 1861 census.  Thanks in advance.

Australia / Sumner and West families from Manchester, England
« on: Wednesday 17 March 21 15:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, on researching my father's side of the family, I have found that two of his father's cousins emigrated to Australia after the death of their father.  Edith Heywood 1897 married William Sumner 1901 and emigrated to Australia sometime after her marriage in 1925.  Her sister Ethel Heywood 1899 married Jack Benjamin Stanley West in 1919 and emigrated to Australia.  I don't know if they both couples went together or separately, but Edith died in Burwood, NSW in 1958 and Ethel died in Sydney in 1972.  Unfortunately, this is the only information I have on either sister.  Their youngest brother, Frank, who was born in 1905 was taken in by my great grandfather and brought up as one of his own.  I wonder if anyone can help.  Kath

Canada / Donkin family from Northumberland, England
« on: Wednesday 17 March 21 14:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I haven't noticed this site until recently, and I hope someone can help me.  The family were told that some of their relatives were asked by the British Government if they like to emigrate to Canada (so the story was told).  I know that in the late 1700s two brothers and a cousin emigrated to the River Philip area of Nova Scotia and subsequently settled there.  Their name was Donkin.  I have researched as much as I can and have found that the original Donkin family married into various families - e.g. Ripley, Black, Oxley and Bulmer.  Is there anyone out there doing the same tree as me so they can set me on the right path to confirm if my findings are correct.  Many thanks, Kath

Northumberland / Bridgehouses
« on: Monday 15 February 21 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
On looking through the Bishops Transcripts for Stannington, I came across Bridgehouses as the place a couple of my possible relations lived.  I have googled the name but all I have come up with is two bed and breakfast places, one at Hexham and one at Alnwick.  Can anyone shed any light on this place?
