Family History Beginners Board / Barnhill Poorhouse, Glasgow
« on: Sunday 19 February 23 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace my Gt, Gt, Gt grandfather Alexander Gibson b 1839 in Ireland who lived in King Street Glasgow in 1871.  I believe he was in the Barnhill Poorhouse in the late 1880s.  He was "sponsored" to the Bolton Workhouse in 1903 by a Mr Harkins of 6 Hartington Place off Springburn Rd Glasgow at this time.  Was Mr Harkins somehow connected to the Barnhill Workhouse?

How can I find a birth certificate of John Gibson born in 1862 in Dromore?  His father was Alexander Gibson and mother Sarah Beck, brother William born 1860.

Sarah and Alexander Gibson married in Dromore, Down, Ireland in 1858 and moved to Calton, Glasgow.  Their daughter Sarah Mitchell Gibson was born in 1869 in Dromore and son Alexander in Calton in 1864.  William b 1860 in Dromore, and John b 1862 in Dromore moved to Bolton, Lancashire, around 1880.  Sarah died in Calton in 1872 aged around 37.  What happened to Alexander senior, Alexander junior and Sarah Mitchell Gibson?  I can find to trace of them after the 1871 census, although I may have found Alexander senior living as a lodger in Argyle Street, Dalziel on the 1891 census as a Plasterer's labourer.

Alexander Gibson b1839 in Dromore and married Sarah Beck in 1858.  Alexander's father was John Gibson but I can find no record of a John Gibson, nor any record of Alexander's mother.  Alexander was my Gt. Gt. Gt grandfather.  His other children were William b1859, John b 1862 and Sarah b1869 in Dromore, his son Alexander was born in Glasgow in 1864, where Alexander and Sarah moved to.
