Census and Resource Discussion / Stumped looking for people in 1911 - ideas welcome
« on: Saturday 20 October 18 19:11 BST (UK)  »
Evening all, I need to pick your brains if I may  :)

I have the following family in 1901, living in Whitley Street, Manchester
Frederick Boulton  Head  Married  Age 29 born 1872
Elizabeth Boulton  Wife  Married  Age 27 born 1874
Harry Boulton   Son, Age 7 born 1894
George Boulton  Son, Age 5 born 1896

Frederick's birthplace is given as Australia, which I can tell you is nonsense! He was born in Gloucestershire. The others were born in Manchester.

Now I cannot for the life of me find them in 1911, and need some fresh eyes or ideas.
- I believe Frederick died in 1909, so he can be ignored for the purpose of this. The others should be there though.
- I have no reason to believe they moved away...I have references to George in Manchester up to the 1920s.
- Harry was actually William Henry
- I've tried various spelling variations in case of mistranscription without any joy.

Any suggestions please?

Armed Forces / Pte Purcell, KSLI
« on: Monday 06 June 11 12:02 BST (UK)  »
A request of my own..  :)

I'm trying to trace any records or any other leads at all for a Pte E Purcell, 1/KSLI active in the 1890s.
That's pretty much all I have so far. I've had a quick look at the WO97 records on FindMyPast, but no obvious candidates leap out at me.

All suggestions welcome.

Armed Forces / mystery Highlander
« on: Monday 07 January 08 21:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
Happy New Year to you.

Who's our resident highlander expert on this board? I could do with a second opinion on this chap. I'm assuming from the wings that he's a musician of some sort, but any idea what sort?
And opinions as to regiment would be helpful too  ;D ;D

Cheers,
Neil

Europe / POLAND - Iendrzejowski
« on: Tuesday 13 March 07 20:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
This is an entirely new area of research for me, so excuse me if any of my questions are obvious/old news.

I have a Stanislas Iendrzejowski (or Jendrzejowski) in the 1851, 1861 & 1871 census in London. Described as an engineer, born in Poland (no more) and born c.1805 (the ages given don't tally exactly)

I also have a marriage in 1842 in Westminster to Stanislas Jedizejoroski which I think could be him. It's one of those surnames that seems to have at least a dozen variant spellings in the records!

So my questions:
- He must have arrived in GB sometime between 1805 and 1842. Is there any way I can narrow this down at all?
- Where in Poland was the family from? Can anyone suggest anywhere to look that may tell me?

Thanks in advance,
Neil

Hi there,
I'm looking for anything on 15457 Private Arthur Jones of the 22nd Manchester Regt
I have a letter written by him (undated unfortunately) from the 11th General Hospital somewhere in Italy.

Any and all information greatfully received.
Thanks in advance,
Neil

Armed Forces / Battery Sergeant-Major?
« on: Monday 22 January 07 15:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Would be grateful if someone could just confirm for me the rank of the seated chap in this photo.
Both Battery Sergeant-Major and Battery Quartermaster-Sergeant have been suggested to me, and I can't decide which!

Many thanks,
Neil

Does anyone out there have easy access to any Army Lists between roughly 1900 and 1904 and would mind looking up an officer for me?

Thanks in advance,
Neil

Hi all,
I'm just back from a trip to the Ukraine, and managed a flying visit to Sevastopol and Balaklava. If anyone is interested to see how these places look today, I'm going to put some photos online. Will add the link soon, so watch this space.

Donegal / births - SKINNER 1870s
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 16:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Looking for births of Julia? Skinner (c.1875) and Sarah Jane Skinner (c.1878).
Parents were Richard (a coastguard from England) and Sarah.

Sarah Jane I'm pretty confident was born in Donegal (her father was stationed at Rutland Island).
Julia I'm less confident about as it falls when he was between coastguard postings.

Grateful for any leads at all.
Neil
