United States of America / Help with border crossing card terms/codes please
« on: Friday 25 May 18 01:13 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor, Bridget Hughes who eventually got into the US, but has a couple of Border Crossing Cards. I am curious about a couple of entries on those cards.

One gives the reason for rejection as 'No CIV' (or possibly 'No C1V'). What would that refer to?

The second entry is under 'Medical Certificates' on the rear of the card, where it says 'Afflicted with FDD'. Again, any suggestions as to what that was?

Much obliged for anyone's time and/or help.

Other Countries / Dissident's Cemetery, Valparaiso, Chile
« on: Sunday 26 March 17 11:43 BST (UK)  »
I have a family member who I believe is buried in the Dissident's Cemetery in Valparaiso.
I'm wondering is there an office I can write to to get the exact location of the grave with a view, possibly, to putting a marker on it.

Perhaps someone with local knowledge can help.

US Completed Requests / COMPLETED Looking to confirm a death
« on: Tuesday 17 May 16 16:35 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather Patrick Loughman married my great grandmother in Ireland in 1905.
On his marriage cert. he is described as a widower. This came as a surprise to us as he was only 28.

I went looking for a marriage elsewhere and found one to a Lydia Olsen (b. 1870 Sweden, father Peter ____, mother Mary Olsen) in Manhattan on 29th August 1894. Her address is listed as 239 WI 66 (this 'could' be West 66th).

My great grandfather was Patrick Loughman (b. 1872 Queen's County, Ireland, father Stephen Loughman, mother Kate McKeon). He was listed as resident in Pelham Manor, NY, which is where two of his sisters and some brothers had gone to earlier.

The next mention of him is on the Irish census of 1901 where he is listed as 'not married' - of course it's possible he never mentioned his adventures in NY to his father who filled out the census form - none of his family were witnesses at the NY wedding, which is odd as a number of them were in NY at the time.

I am looking for a death record for Lydia (Olsen) Loughman, to confirm she was indeed deceased when he married again. It is possible she sometimes used the first name Lizzie.

In the absence of a nationwide database, I suppose I'm looking at New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and maybe even Rhode Island. Can anyone help?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Sharpen and clean up please
« on: Friday 02 December 11 09:55 GMT (UK)  »
This is a photo belonging to a student of mine. It is her grandmother and great grandfather. If anyone could maybe clean it up and sharpen it a little it would be great.
It is the only photo she has of her great grandad.

Dublin / Dublin 1850 and North Dublin 1912
« on: Sunday 14 May 06 08:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I made the site for the Dublin City Directory of 1850 that I know many of you use.

Please be aware I have transferred this to its own domain now, and it is no longer at loughman.dna.ie but at its own address of http://www.dublin1850.com

Also on my site is Porter's Directory of North County Dublin 1912. It's more of a commercial once-off directory, but it may be useful for some people.

Best wishes
Trish Loughman
