Hello
I have finished my family history.  Every research has a mystery.  Otto Hugo Diacono, my Grandmother's first cousin (one of many).  He was born in Ceylon (as was then known), on 29th January 1899.
His parents were William and Mary Diacono who, at the time, owned and operated the "Mary Hill Hotel" in Nuwara Eliya.
William was a Tea Planter,he was also into coffee and coal. He died ca 1920. His wife died in 1932 - in Ceylon.  They had 9 children, Aldo, Aida, Hugo, Nora, Irima, Arno, Otto, Ezio and Remo.
All have been traced:  Exception. Otto.
Otto was born in Ceylon in 1899. He and his brothers were schooled at St. Joseph's, Dumfries, Scotland. Their Home base was 1 Montpellier Gardens, Harrogate.
Otto joined up for WWI. I found his partially burned War Records.
He was demobbed in 1919 and returned to Ceylon. Service No. 59168 West Yorkshire Regiment.  WO372/6
Otto was in an article from the "Antonian" Magazine, written by Charles Duft, Tytler.  regarding St Anthony's college, Kandy ca 1923.

In 1928, I found him entering Australia to join two brothers already here. With an almost immediate return to Ceylon via England.

The following cannot be substantiated:  I believe that...
1. ...his hands were badly injured during the War. I cannot find a Pension.
2. ... the War damaged him Mentally
3. ...His mother was a strong Matriarch and possibly farmed him out into the care of some Ceylonese women (photo with two women, one of which is pregnant, date unknown)
4. ... there was a girl and boy in a Diacono Photo album, showing them both dressed in religious regalia (Girl, First communion. Boy in sailor suit).  No dates.
5. ...Aida, the eldest sister took the photographs of her brother and the two women, and of the two children for family reasons.

Question.  Can someone tell me when Otto Diacono died and where he might be buried?
Would one ever have a chance to find out if he fathered these two children.

Long story, but I've cut it to the bone for this purpose.
Thank you

England / William Wiss,Marianne Ainger surnames
« on: Monday 31 December 18 08:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have researched my Wiss family, and all that I need to know, I already have to hand.
Was recently contacted by a Wiss family name living in Tasmania, Australia.
She is looking for the birth of William Robert Charles Wiss.  He may have been born in England or Germany.  I found the English Marriage of William Robert Charles Wiss and Marianne Ainger in Dec. 1860. Marylebone vol 1a page 633.

I can't seem to find anything further back on either of these people.  Forward...I know that Marianne died in Australia in 1906.  She had three sons...who were all born in Germany. Alfred, Lionel and Campbell (or Mervyn Campbell).  She and her sons came to Australia.

As for William Robert Charles...could anyone tell me who his parents were.
If he perhaps died in England sometime before the sons moved to Australia. e.g. before 1906

His father I believe, was a linguist and Professor and lived in Germany, but was married to an English Girl. He too may have been born in Germany, but surely there was an original Wiss Grandfather in the UK somewhere.   There is a thought that the Grandfather's name may have been James Wiss.

I had no luck with the early census dates up to 1861... I will keep looking, Departures/arrivals by ship for either Australia  for Marianne and her three sons, or for her and her husband going to and from Germany.

Anyone out there with some idea?

Thanks,
Lucygrasshopper.

Other Countries / Looking for Bauerhorst and Blache, Alexandria Egypt.
« on: Sunday 17 May 15 02:59 BST (UK)  »
Joanna Diacono was born in Alexandria Egypt on 21 Jan 1836.  Her sister, Ernesta Diacono was b. 16 August 1827 Alexandria.  Other siblings were: Caterina, b. 1828, never married, Guiseppe Lorenzo, b. 1830 Teresa b. 28 Jan 1832, Hannibal b. 1842 (aka Annibal) and John Baptise b. 1847

I have traced all of the siblings.  On a death notice for the brother, Guiseppe Lorenzo, the sisters were listed a V (widow) Bauerhorst and  V (widow) Blache.   There is no indication as to which sister married which of these men.   They were widows before 1900 when Guiseppe died.  Then, nothing more is heard of them. Has anyone any clues to these two surnames either before or after 1900 in Alexandria Egypt, or elsewhere,

Thanks for any help

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Pearse from Sidney. Kent
« on: Wednesday 27 September 06 19:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  My research has now brought me to Kent.

I am looking for Margaret Violet Pearse born in Sidney, Kent on 1/1/1893

She was the daughter of William Earle Pearse born in Surrey 1856.

The information above came from The Alexandria British Consulate General (Egypt).  Before I can continue, I must find these two people.  I have a feeling the the date for Margaret Violet Pearse is incorrect.

Can someone help.

England / Overseas GRO
« on: Saturday 09 September 06 21:03 BST (UK)  »
Can someone assist:

I am a pensioner lady with limited resources.  Yesterday I was going through 1837online.com.  I was sure I was under "marriages" In the overseas section.

I found an entry.

Diacono - Frederick - vol 5  page 307.

Then a blackout.

I lost it - and spent most if not all of my credits trying to find it again.

The time line would be around 1879 and no later than 1893 - that much I do know.

I am sure I was in marriages.  Frederick was my GGrandfather and family insisted he  had married twice.

I was also looking for his death - perhaps I got both confused.

Can anyone look this up for me?

Berkshire / Samuel FASSETT/FAWCETT
« on: Sunday 20 August 06 00:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Was wondering if someone can help.  I live Down Under and can take all the assistance I can get.

I have had posts before - got a lot sorted too, but I am stuck again.

My many times GGrandfather was Aaron Fassett/Fawcett
He was christened at St Mary, reading Berkshire on 25/4/1791

He married Charlotte Derberidge (Durbridge) on 2/9/1813 at St Marys.

Aarron and Charlotte had three Sons.

William -  born in 1816 - I have found him - he and his wife went to New Zealand - all accounted for:

Henry William was born in 1814 and is my Direct Ancestor and accounted for. (even though some records showed he died at birth - bit of a mixup which is sorted)

Here is my Question:

Samuel was the 3rd son born in 1818. I figure in Thatcham, although William was born in Middlesex.

I have a gap between Census Records and Samuel's family showing a son, Samuel born in 1836 in Thatcham... His wife was Annie... They had about 10 Children.

I am looking for Samuel's Marriage.  I thought his son, Samuel born in 1836 would provide the answer - but no luck.

Can anyone help me with the Marriage of Samuel FassettFawcett, 3rd Son of Aaron Fassett/Fawcett and Charlotte Durberbridge?

Berkshire / Henry Fawcett
« on: Friday 16 June 06 03:44 BST (UK)  »
My many times Great Grandfather was Aaron Fawcett.
He was born in Berkshire and christened 25 April 1791 Saint Mary Reading, Berkshire.

Aaron married Charlotte Durbridge on 2.9.1813

They had three sons:

William -  b. 22.9.1816 - who married Jane Smedley and went to New Zealand

Samuel - born in 1818 the same year his father died and was still alive on the 1881 Census

Then there was Henry... Henry was born in 1814.  I have found information by hunting all over the place which indicated that Henry was born and died in 1814 - on 25 Sept.

The more I thought about it, the more I figured Henry's purported death date was probably his christening date and someone got it wrong.

I am in trouble if this Henry was not the one that married Harriet Eddicett on 26 September 1839

Best I can make out is the Registration No. 579 or it could be 179. Parish Church???  of the Established Church of ???City of London

The Certificate is almost illegible.

Can someone confirm My Henry?

Thank you
Lucy

Hi.  I am looking for a Death at Sea.  I found some minimal details but need a certificate.

My gGrandmother was Louisa Annie Philipine Diacono (nee Wiss), she apparently died at sea at/on the way-to/near Alexandria.

The year was 1880
The ship was the "Almora"
Listed as: Diacono - Adult - Female  then a number 7
Later I found her listed in an Identical Manner with the No. 162

Can anyone point me in the right direction
Thank you
Lucy
