Family History Beginners Board / Help confirming address
« on: Monday 11 September 23 12:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.
Anyone have any advice on trying to confirm someones address in 1940? I have an address of 4 bankside cottages, concrete Milltown, Dublin for Ann/Annie Murphy. All other records for this lady before and after are in London where she was from. Her spouse was from this area of Dublin however, but he was in London in 1940.
She had 3 children that I suspect ended up in someone else's care as it seems she had issues with alcoholism and homelessness. I really want to locate the children and the address may help to narrow down the search to Dublin or London?
Annie Murphy died in 1974 in St.Marylebone in London, probably buried by the council would also love any pointers on a burial record/location?

Family History Beginners Board / Help with any of the brick walls i've met!
« on: Sunday 20 August 23 14:23 BST (UK)  »
I've been researching my husbands maternal lineage and although I've answered many questions I've uncovered even more mysteries that I can't resolve. Any pointers in any direction on any of the following would be greatly appreciated.
So it all leads back to this man Joseph Murphy (later known as John Joseph)
Born Donnybrook Dublin 05/02/1906
On 28.10.1928 he married Helena Teresa Nicoloff in Rathmines Dublin.
His address is registered as 10 concrete milltown, hers is Portobello bks. Portobello bks have no record of her. Her father is Theodore Nicoloff Gardener. There doesnt appear to be any further record of her until she is mentioned on his army discharge record as address unknown and then possibly an illegible address in Dundrum (Dublin) her nationality is listed as french.
Also on his army discharge there is an unmarried wife Ann Mars known as Mrs A Murphy
they had 3 children it seems all of which i have obtained birth certs for, they are as following:

Child 1 (girl):01/10/1935 born Marloes road London - mother Anita Murphy domestic servant 70 Walterton road Paddington.

Child 2 (girl): 11/06/1938 born Barnsdale road - mother Ann Murphy

Child 3 (boy): 07/12/1939 born Rendle street London - mother Ann Mars

John Joseph Murphy was discharged from the army in november 1942 due to an injury.  Ann/Anita Mars/Murphys address on his discharge record is 4 Bankside cottages, Concrete Milltown, Dublin. I am unable to find any other record for her aside from the army record. I have no further leads on their children.

He married Mary Harris in 1941 and although their eldest child ( born 1942) is recorded on his army record she is not mentioned? They had a further 3 children together. He went on to abandon that family circa 1958, we think he returned to Ireland for a short time but was unable to stay due to medical costs so returned to London. He died in Brentwood hospital in 1982.

I know its a lot but like i say any help on any of it would be so gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Address in Dundrum, Dublin, Ireland
« on: Wednesday 09 August 23 14:05 BST (UK)  »
Would really appreciate any assistance deciphering the address in Dundrum? Apologies for the dreadful image quality this is written in tiny writing on army records. I believe its the last known address of Mrs H Murphy who married my grandfather. The only other record I can find for her is their marriage certificate which sites her address as Portobello barracks.
