The Common Room / The Church at the South Dublin Union Workhouse
« on: Tuesday 12 September 23 14:37 BST (UK)  »
HI All, I am researching my Grandfather who was born in the said Union Workhouse, I have recently learned there was a church on the grounds where children left there would have been baptised and I see it closed in 2015  at that time named as St James Church and was run by an order of Catholic nuns but I cant seem to find out what its name would have been in the 1890's, someone suggested to be it could have been St Kevin's then but there was already a St Kevin's Church in Dublins south city at that time and it wasn't on the workhouse site. Has anyone ever come across information on it in their searches please? I am trying to track down the records for the church back then I have contacted the nearest church and looked on all the sites carrying Catholic records to no avail but knowing for sure what the church was called might help, thanks

« on: Saturday 30 July 22 12:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi All I wonder if anyone knows if there are records for adoptions in Ireland for the late 19th and early 20th century or is that just a silly question given the times they were? thanks

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Tudor De Evelynge family
« on: Tuesday 08 February 22 11:43 GMT (UK)  »
Morning all looking for some help with perhaps finding where I could access the whole parish record for this Tudor lady her name is Sibillan De Evelynge and she was married in Rickmansworth Herts in 1564 to a John or Joseph Gibbs I have all of his information and all of here's going forward from her marriage but just cannot seem to find a birth for her which was given as 1527. having done lots of digging online I can see the parish records still exist but no where can I find a place to write to access or visit to view them in the hope of a fathers name as I think that mothers names were not included then, hoping someone from there could point me in the right direction as her heritage has been a mystery to me for some time now. thanks in anticipation of a few pointers

The Common Room / Marriage document requirements in 1918 ?
« on: Thursday 20 May 21 12:22 BST (UK)  »
HI All, I wonder if any of you know what documents a person would have been obliged to supply to the catholic church in order to get married in 1918? I have recently discovered that my mystery Granddad was not born with the name he gave on his marriage certificate or indeed to the parents he gave, so I am assuming as he was as far as I know an orphan, that he either made up both or used the name of the people who fostered/adopted/or jut raised him, but surely, as the same as today, he would have been required to produce a birth or baptism certificate to the church? anyone got any clue on this please I have spoken to the church office who apart from what I have on him have no other information on him that can help me solve his mystery.

Good Morning all, just wondering if anyone might point me in the right direction, or if any of you have ever come across records belonging to Mount St Josephs School Clondalkin Dublin on your travels? I don't seem to be able to find anything for them anywhere online I'v checked the National Archives website but cant find anything there either so suggestions where else to look would be greatly appreciated, apparently it was a "poor school" and then became a private one before its demise thanks all

Dublin / Taidquest connecting with Kavanagh Family
« on: Tuesday 11 August 20 10:28 BST (UK)  »
Good morning everyone hope you are all keeping safe and well. My Sister Anne known on these boards as Taidquest who sadly died in 2012 had connected during the time of her illness with our Kavanagh family in Dublin , I met some of them at her service and at the time being upset did not think to take their details. I know one of them lived on the south coast in Dublin, if you are reading this please get in touch on private message with me as I would like to continue the search for her, thanks All

The Common Room / Sailor Ahoy
« on: Friday 07 August 20 13:08 BST (UK)  »
HI All looking for some suggestions from your brilliant heads! My Great granddad  one William Owens said on his marriage cert he was a sailor in 1870 in Dublin. I am guessing he was in the merchant service. I have gone off to the archives available and had a look for any clues to who he was and where he was born but there are so many with the same name in the period he would have been serving ! anyone got any other suggestions for me where to look for him, his age just says full on his cert so 21 or over in 1870 the rumour in our family was the family were from Wales but I have never been able to prove that he stayed in Dublin after leaving the service and my granddad was born in Dublin I found the fAMILY on the 1901 but I think I'm not meant to find anything bout him as he didnt write on the census where any of them were born including himself! thank s
