Family History Beginners Board / "Brumwell" from Garrigill

Hi, everyone.
I am new here. I have been researching my Brumwell line and have run into a dead end. I have been in touch with the Alston Moor Historical Society and searched their digital archives, along with Ancestry.com (paid subscription) and Google. I'm stuck.
I am descended from the surname Brumwell from Garrigill. The historians in AMHS thought my surname may have changed and may have been "Bramwell" at some point. I haven't found documentation of this but there are a lot of Bramwells in that area.
The last person in my line that I can confirm is John Brumwell, born in Garrigill in either 1668 or 1717 and died 1747. I have conflicting information on who his wife was on Ancestry. I show a Mary Elizabeth Brown. I have tried Google and many other sites, looking through all of the actual documents on Ancestry, and just can't seem to figure out anything more than this basic information.
Does anyone happen to have any information on this line of Brumwells from Garrigill? If this helps, I am descended through John's son George (I believe) 1744 - 1806 married to Hannah Henderson in Garrigill.
