Berkshire / 26 Craufurd Rise Maidenhead 1941
« on: Tuesday 17 July 12 12:57 BST (UK)  »
I have found this address among some old family papers.

Does anyone know if it was a mother and baby home in 1941?

If so where would I be able to search for records and/or information ?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Please help
« on: Friday 22 January 10 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
When my Aunt died recently my cousin found this old photo among her posessions. We would love to know when and where this was taken.Does anyone on the forum recognise anyone on the photo?

Is it possible to try to make the picture clearer?

I can just make out a church or tall chimney top left and what appears to be rows of terraced housing top left.Would be grateful for any improvements, ideas, suggestions of date etc anyone has to offer.

It was pasted to a photographic card with the name W G Davies on it .Looks like a photo had been removed first.

May possibly be  linked to Wales or Gloucesershire.

Armed Forces / Army Marriage in Bombay
« on: Friday 21 November 08 13:17 GMT (UK)  »
We now know that Grandma married Sergeant Samuel Abrames at St Thomas`s Cathedral in Bombay on 5th Feb 1896.Samuel was in the !st Batt King`s Royal Rifle Corps at Tullunder. The witnesses at their wedding were Rose Pepper and WK Pepper.
Does anyone recognise the Peppers?

We first thought Sarah must have sailed out to marry him but are now wondering if her father might have been in the Army in India too.
Does anyone know how I can find out?
His name was Charles Peart. (deceased by 1896)

Many thanks,Carrie

Sarah PEART b BECKFORD , which I think is near Tewkesbury, married our Samuel Abrams  b 1869, who died at the battle of Talana Hill in the Boer War in 1899. Still looking for a marriage for them.

I think she was born Beckford as she says she was  on the 1901 Census for south Derbyshire after she returned from S.Africa with her two tiny girls.

If anyone researching Pearts in this area can confirm this birth on the Parish Regs or have parents for her we would be so pleased to hear from you.

World War Two / Wartime Birth Certificates

Was it normal for a soldier to list his peacetime occupation on a birth certificate during WW2 or would he put his regiment?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Salvation Army Band.
« on: Saturday 31 March 07 10:02 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please date this picture, the car in the background might help.

Does anyone recognise the building behind?

It is probably a Salvation Army Citadel somewhere.

The band is Ebbw Vale SA Band but they often went to other parts of the country to give concerts etc.

Is it possible to improve it?

Carrie.
