Good afternoon all.

I require a few pointers and advise on where I might find records of the 52nd Regiment of Light Infantry from Chatham Barracks in the 1860's.

My GGG Grandmother married 3 times :-

12th July 1859 to a Thomas Roomey - a Private in the 52nd Regiment at Chatham Barracks

16th March 1864 to a Richard Fagg - a Butcher based at Chatham Barracks

11th July 1866 to a Joseph Jackson - a Corporal in the 52nd Regiment at Chatham Barracks : they had a son Thomas Jackson born 9th July 1871 \ Baptism 23rd July 1871 in Malta - I have the Birth certificate that states 52nd Regiment of Light Infantry. Interestingly, the Father's rank is now Private. MC O'Dell is stated at Senior Chaplin. Adjutant Lt BM Pulteney

My thanks in advance to any help, ideas and thoughts that could be suggested.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Any photos of Havant Street - Portsmouth ?
« on: Wednesday 02 February 11 20:15 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have any old photos of Havant Street - Portsmouth : it's behind the pubs opposite HMS Warrier.

I've been up the Street a good few times in the last three years - but would absolutely love to see any pics of the Street when it had lots of houses and shops up it - obviously pre-WW2.

Many thanks indeed. I do have Trade Directories, so there is quite a bit of information on those, but to see photos of the Street where lived at ancestors lived would be brilliant. My lot lived at number 30.......apparently it was a coal merchants in the 1930's. And before then, they ran a Marine Trade Shop.

Much appreciated if anyone can post up anything or have any ideas where I could get photos from.

Jackson – I would very much like to hear from anyone descended from Thomas Henry Jackson who was born on 9th July 1871 (Pembroke Barracks, Malta). His parents were Joseph Jackson (born c1839 Sundon, Bedfordshire) and Mary Ann Fagg (born c1840 Chatham, Kent).

Thomas Henry Jackson married Grace Brimecome on 27th January 1892 at Portsea Parish Church.

PM me if you think we might have some sort of match - yeah ok this is a long shot..............but if you don't ask, you don't know !

....which Board do I post it up on ?

Do I go to the County Boards ?

Please advise, as I have 4 'notices' I would like to place. It's a bit of a long-shot, but I'm keen to see if anyone is descended from brothers and sisters of half my Great Grandparents. The other half, I'll do another time.

Thanks very much indeed.

« on: Saturday 12 May 07 15:46 BST (UK)  »
Afternoon all,

One of my direct Ancestors died at Sydney House - Emsworth, on 28th July 1876.

I'm having great problems finding out very much about the place (Sydney House).

Can anyone help at all ? Anything would be great. Do you know Emsworth ? Can you possibly think where Sydney House might be (or was) located ?

Many thanks indeed for all thoughts, ideas and help.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Please can anyone find this marriage ?
« on: Friday 23 March 07 18:35 GMT (UK)  »
Richard Haynes (born approx 1817 - Bristol)

Grace Purnell (born 1822) - according to the IGI (her father was William Purnell - I have the Cert of her 2nd marriage - 1875)

1851 Census : Class HO 107 / Piece 1947 / Folio ?!? / Page 10

Children listed : -
William aged approx 8 years old - born Bristol
Joseph aged approx 6 years old - born Lelant, Guernsey, Channel Islands
Mary Ann aged approx 4 years old - born Bristol
Henry aged approx 8 months - born Bristol

Richard was a Tabacco Pipe Maker

Sadly, the youngest son Henry died within a couple of years and then another son was born in 1855 (my GG Grandfather) - and he was also called Henry ! Something I'm aware did happen at times.

*************************************
So, please, please, please, can anyone find a marriage between Richard Haynes and Grace Purnell ? I have the 1855 Birth Cert of my Henry, and also Grace's 2nd marriage also re-confirms her maiden name.

Maybe they were married in the Channel Islands ? I really have no idea either if this might be true or how to look up if it happened there !?!?

Any help would be fantastic - my thanks in advance for any time taken to try and solve this 'brickwall'.

Regards

Simon
