New Zealand Completed Requests / Please find birth mother COMPLETED
« on: Friday 08 November 13 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have now got my birth/adoption records, having previously thought they were unavailable and have a fair bit of information, but as my birth father was from USA and my birth mother from New Zealand. I was born 1965 at St Mary Abbots Hospital, London and named Joanna Sampson.

I am not able to access births, deaths and marriages in NZ as not a NZ citizen and the births, deaths and marriages I think we may need to search are less that the 80 or 100 years required for me to gain access. My mother would now be 72 yrs old, if still living, and NZ privacy laws do not allow access.

Any help would be most appreciated

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA tests
« on: Tuesday 29 April 08 20:13 BST (UK)  »

My husband has had both maternal & paternal DNA tests recently performed. (His parents are dead)
I want to find out my DNA group.
Being female I know I have to obtain my father's DNA for the male line,
but for the female line is it better to obtain my own or my mother's DNA just incase in the future they can use her stored DNA to obtain her father's line as well as her mother's?
As the tests are expensive I want to get it right.

Hello
I would be grateful if anyone could help me.
For many years I have been looking for the death of Amelia wife of Joseph Taylor.
She was living in Hitchin, Hertfordshire when the 1851 & 1861 census was taken.
In 1861 she was 41 years old living with husband Joseph a Drover. She had 4 living children the youngest being only 1 month old.
In 1871 her widowed husband was at a Beer House & Common Lodging house in Hitchin - Drover out of work.
I can only find her youngest child now living with Joseph's sister.
Amelia was the daughter of George Curtis a Farmer. I do not know where he lived.
I believe Drover's wives moved around with their husbands from cattle market to cattle market and wondered if she died on route. There are no Hitchin deaths or burials for Amelia or her children.
As the GRO Index does not give age of deaths for the following 5 entries I am unable to rule them out. The 6th Amelia was the correct age but was she wife of Joseph Taylor, Drover?

GRO Deaths

Dec 1862      Taylor    Amelia       St Giles          1b   305   LND
Jun 1863     Taylor    Amelia       Brentford          3a   41   MDX
Dec 1863      Taylor    Amelia       Pancras          1b   24   LND
Dec 1864                 Taylor    Amelia       Newington      1d   151   LND
Jun 1865      Taylor    Amelia       Bethnal Gn      1c   205   LND
Jun 1866      Taylor    Amelia    45    Lambeth           1d   244   LND

Any help would be gratefully received.

My mother's favourite Aunt & Uncle were killed when their house was bombed during WWII
We believe they lived at one of the following addresses before the war.

67 Hamilton Rd, Dollis Hill. N.W.10.

15 Carlisle Rd, Kilburn, N.W. 6.

We would be very grateful if any one could look up electoral register to confirm where
Katie & George Albert Knight lived just before the war.

How can I find out if one of these addresses was bombed during WWII killing the occupants?
67 Hamilton Rd, Dollis Hill. N.W.10.
15 Carlisle Rd, Kilburn, N.W. 6.

My mother's favourite aunt & uncle were killed when their house was bombed.

I have a photograph/postcard of a house
My grandmother had written on the back on two separate occasions
aunt Kit's house bombed in 1940's',
'Dollis Hill, London Aunt Kit & husband killed'
This appears contradictory as on the front is an embossed photographer's stamp -
Bartholomews, Linford, Bucks.

My mother would have been 7 yrs old in 1940 and 12 yrs old when the war ended.

Aunt Kit was born Katie Philpott 09 Mar 1881 in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.

Katie Philpott and George Albert Knight marriage was registered Oct - Dec
1905  in Hatfield District of Hertfordshire

In March 1939 Katie Knight would have been 58 yrs.
In March 1945 she would have been 64 yrs.

Knight is a common name but Katie, Kate etc are not
George is also common and not knowing his age is a problem I believe he was known as Albert

I searched GRO indexes 1939-1945 mainly for Katie aged 58 - 64 years
The only entries that appear to fit are as follows -

Kate             63 yrs     Croydon, SRY.      (Jul-Sep) 1943     2a 666
George         77 yrs     Croydon, SRY.      (Oct-Dec) 1943    2a 1072

They do not appear to be included in the Commonwealth Civilian Casualties index.
If their house was bombed but they died of their injuries a few days or
weeks later would they still be classed as war civilian casualties?
If they were staying with relatives or friends who were also killed would it
be the owners of the house that were recorded as casualties?

Any help would be much appreciated

1881 census
High Street, Syresham, Northamptonshire
Joseph Taylor   58 yrs   Widower   Lodger    Cattle Drover    born Hitchin, Hertfordshire

My Joseph son of William & Rose Taylor was born in Hitchin between 1819-1827 (1841-1871 census differ) but was baptised 1822.

He married Amelia Curtis in Hitchin 1847
Their children were Henry, Mary Ann, Eliza, George, Amelia & Clara.

As there were a few Joseph Taylors born Hitchin at that time could this be my Joseph ? I can not find him 1891 census Could he have died there?

Any help would be appreciated

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / WWII Civilian Casualties
« on: Friday 22 September 06 11:45 BST (UK)  »
Looking for Katie Knight and husband George Albert Knight killed when house bombed 1940's.
Known as Kit & Albert Knight.
I have a photograph postcard of the big house where they lived embossed on front Bartholomew Linford, Newport Pagnell.
My grandmother wrote on back aunt Kit's house bombed in 1940's' and 'Dollis Hill, London Aunt Kit & husband killed'
I thought Kit lived in Linford, Newport Pagnell 1920's and London Dollis Hill, London during WWII but can not find a death registered that would match her name and age.
I found a death registered North Bucks District 1944 (Jan - Mar) Katie Knight 62 yrs and wondered if it could be her.
Any help in finding what happened to her would be most appreciated.
