Perthshire / Dissenting Church Perth MacGregor/Cameron
« on: Monday 11 October 21 15:31 BST (UK)  »
I'm currently stuck at my ancestors Robert MacGregor (b. Abt 1781) and May Cameron (b.1781) who were married on 12th November 1802 by David Sangster minister of the dissenting congregation in Perth.
Robert is recorded as a weaver and May as the daughter of Daniel Cameron Slater both of this Parish.

Their daughter Isobell MacGregor (GGG Grandmother) was born 9th Dec 1803 and baptised 11th Dec 1803 by the David Sangster minister of the dissenting congregation in Perth.

I haven't been able to find any further information on Robert or May and have no idea really what the dissenting church was.

If anyone could explain the dissenting church to me and where I might look for more information? I would very deeply appreciative.

Many Thanks, Deb

Inverness / The Rev Donald Caskie 'Tarten pimpernel'
« on: Saturday 29 September 07 12:56 BST (UK)  »
According to general belief and wikipedia Donald Caskie was born Bowmore, Islay 1902

However scotlandspeople has no record of this birth, in fact according to scotlandspeople there were no Caskie, Caskey or Cask* births in Argyll between 1901-1903, now either popular belief is wrong or scotlandspeople is faulty.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Ireland / Toll / Toal and McTeague / Montague, born Ireland, but where ???
« on: Sunday 17 June 07 23:38 BST (UK)  »

I am stuck at these 2 ancestor's from Ireland who married in Glasgow.

William Toll/Toal married Margaret Jane McTeague/Montague on 8 July 1867, Shettleston, Glasgow
William parents were James Toll, farm labourer and Helen Toll, m.s. Toll - deceased.
Margaret's were Hugh McTeague, farm labourer- deceased and Jane McTeague, m.s. Hannigan

Census returns show that they were born in Ireland but i have no idea whether they came to Glasgow together or simply met here.

The parents details are the same on their death certificates.
William was born about 1848 ?
Margaret was born about1851 ?

Does anyone have any ideas how i can find their birthplaces ?

Thank you
Debbie

Ireland / Help with surname variations please
« on: Monday 30 April 07 19:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I really hope someone can help me out here,

I have an ancestor who was born 1831/32 Enniskillen, Fermanagh, but i am not sure if i have the correct surname ???

The first record i have for him is his marriage which took place in 1857 Perthshire, Scotland.

On his marriage certificate and first sons birth his name is recorded as William MCKIVLIN.
On the rest of his children's birth certificates it gradually changes from McKivlin to McKelvie
McKivlin > McKilvin > McKelvin > McKilvie > McKelvie

William was the son of Patrick McKivlin ??? and Bridget Goldie (Gouldie), Patrick is recorded as dead on Williams 1857 marriage certificate, Bridget is not.
I have tried looking for Bridget in Scotland with no luck so assume she must have stayed in Ireland.

The surname MCKELVIE has carried on but i am now wondering whether this was Williams real surname or just the Scottish Registrar's interpretation of a strong Irish accent.

is it possible that the surname could have indeed been MCILVEEN or something similar ???
I am really not sure if i am just barking up the wrong tree here but the variations in the surname have been niggling away at me.

I would really appreciate other thoughts on this subject, Thank you!

Monaghan / Michael McCormick born About 1830 ?
« on: Monday 30 April 07 14:07 BST (UK)  »
hello

I don't have much information to go on for this ancestor but its all i have so i hope its enough, most of the information is taken from a poor relief application made Dec 1893 Glasgow so may be a bit suspect  :-\

Michael McCORMICK born 1830/31 County Monaghan.
Religion - Roman catholic.
Parents James McCORMICK, farmer and Susan BOYLAND.
Wife Jane DAILY (DALY) born County Monaghan.
Michael and Jane married about 1850 County Monaghan.

Jane DALY died 31 may 1891, aged 52. Glasgow
parents James DALY and Catherine ? (maiden unknown), both parents deceased.
However, the 1881 census gives Janes age as 57 ???

Michael and Jane McCORMICK had the following children all born Co.Monaghan; Mary (1852), Eliza(beth) (1857), James (1862), Catherine (1864) and Susan (1866), there may be more between 1852-1862.

As yet i have been unable to find a death certificate for Michael McCormick in Glasgownor have i found his marriage or children's birth registrations in County Monaghan.

I would be most grateful if anyone could help, Thank you

Antrim / How can i find the children ?
« on: Monday 30 April 07 01:52 BST (UK)  »
Can someone advise me on how to find out how many children my GG Grandparents had ?

They were Bernard McGeown and Mary Thompson married 14 Oct 1893 at Belfast Roman Catholic Church, Belfast urban 6 parish.

I know they were living at 66 Anderson St between 1901 and 1906 as Bernard is shown as head of house on the 'A street' index and my Great Grandfather Anthony was born in June 1906, they possibly lived there a lot longer or at least within the area.

I know there was other siblings but i have no names, family story tell of a brother Arthur who lost his arm at Dunkirk.

There doesn't appear to be any online index for Ireland and the census is also not available online, is there some other way to find my Great grandfathers siblings ???

I would appreciate any suggestions, Thank you
Debbie

Down / GILMORE from Killinchy
« on: Monday 30 April 07 01:38 BST (UK)  »
Hello :-)

I have just discovered i am from the Gilmore's of Killinchy, County Down.

My GGG Grandparents were Thomas CLARKE and Alice GILMORE, they married on 17 oct 1846 at Killinchy presbyterian church.

According to her death certificate Alice was the daughter of James GILMORE and Hannah CRAIGAN, however i found a record for Alice GILMORE bap: 20 June 1826 Killinchy presbyterian with parents James GILMORE and Hannah GREYHAM.

According to the IGI James GILMORE and Hannah GREYHAM married  at Killinchy presbyterian on 4 June 1816.

Funnily enough though there is a marriage for David GILMORE and Jane CRAIGAN on 7 June 1834, Killinchy., relatives perhaps ???

There is a lot of births on the IGI with Jas. GILMORE as father in Killinchy but unfortunately no mothers names so i am not sure how many children James and Hannah may have had but hopefully i will be able to find some other descendants.

If anyone can help with this family i would be most grateful.

Thank you
