Armed Forces / 1915 short service record Arthur Lloyd
« on: Friday 15 February 13 20:54 GMT (UK)  »
I have just got a copy of records from the WO97 records and my Grandfather has joined the Kings Liverpool Infantry Regiment in India in 1889 British Subject and transferred to England in 1892 and had served in the Boer War and came out in 1902 living in Liverpool.
No mention of later service on the records but I have an Attestation record for 22 June 1915, he is a clerk and the Corps A.S.C.
Does this mean he did further service in the war a note on the top of the record has the word Duplicity written.
He was a widow with small children but the address he has given is Cotton Exchange Hotel Old Hall Street Liverpool.

I posted a photo a few days ago on the restores board and asked on here about Medals so now trying to prove he had been in the war.
If there is a record how can I get it or see it.

Armed Forces / Mystery Man Photo Restores Board Medals help
« on: Tuesday 12 February 13 11:37 GMT (UK)  »
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,635093.0.html

Can someone check the Photo Restoration board for a photo of an unknown family member to help identify his medals the third one not being visible in the picture but maybe a set of three awarded together perhaps.
He is wearing the gold pin of the British Legion too and I am hopeful of trying to identify who he is and date the picture.
I am going out today so will chack back sometime this evening.
Thank you all.

Alfred Anderson left the Hussars in 1912 after 18 years service and was a single man age 38, born Blackburn he lived in Liverpool in his early years.
He died in Manchester

"He was a postman retired and the informant was his wife.

Address on the death cert is - Royal Infirmary/77 ? Moss Lane, Sale.
Informant, wife ? L Anderson
edit -- could be a "S" Anderson - not sure"

The death info is from his Military record

There is a marriage in Mar qt 1914 West Darby to a Louisa Edwards but not certian if it was the right Alfred Anderson

Are there any records anywhere without sending for the cert

Thanks

« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 11:12 BST (UK)  »
If a person was in the Army for 2 years 152 days then transferred to Royal Navy I have his RN records, how can I find his regiment from the army days without a number to go by as the number I have is too short to be a regimental number.
prior to 1921 he was Army and had a Victory Medal and a bullet wound according to the record
The NA has too many of the same name to find him

Technical Help / Laptop password?? help Please Completed thanks
« on: Friday 22 July 11 21:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello I have a friend in distress with her laptop and needs help

She has managed to post this on  the BBC website but she had just used someones laptop to do it and if I get a reply I can telephone her what to do.
She is computer illiterate in the sense of techie stuff and can only do certain things on a computer so simple if you can

Edna

Here is what she said just now

As I use a laptop I set a user password when I got it in case it was ever stolen. I have to log on with that password before I can access anything on it. Today however whenever I have tried to log on I get the following message " user profile service service failed the log on user profile cannot be loaded" I've tried entering a wrong password and get an entirely different message so I know that isn't the problem. I've done all the usual unplugging everything leaving it for a while and replugging etc. Have tried battery operation and mains but all to no avail. So I am completely stuck and haven't the foggiest where to start. In case it makes any difference I'm on windows 7 and it is a p*ck*ard bell laptop.

Cumberland / Harrison Whitehaven/Pardshaw baptisms
« on: Monday 18 July 11 21:25 BST (UK)  »
I have had a longstanding brickwall on my Harrisons Whitehaven but have justy had a breakthrough hopefully with familysearch records.

I have found a marriage of Jonathan Harrison to Elizabeth Stephenson 26th May 1829 Holy Trinity Whitehaven
I also found the following baptisms

Sarah Harrison 20 August 1829 Pardshaw Whitehaven

Elizabeth Harrison 16 Feb 1832 Pardshaw Whitehaven

John Harrison 30 Oct 1833 Pardshaw Whitehaven

Ann Elizabeth Harrison 09 Sept 1835 Pardshaw Whitehaven

William Harrison 22 Feb 1837 Pardshaw Whitehaven

I am a bit confused as to Pardshaw as I can only find it in Cockermouth but the record says Whitehaven on each of the births

I have sent an e mail to Whitehaven record Office to ask how much it will cost to find and send these records but I dont know what church the baptisms too place.

I have the family in the 1841/51 census in Whitehaven St Bees But there is no child Elizabeth or William so I am assuming these children have died in childhood.

I have Isabella (Gt Grandmother)birth cert born 11 May 1841 Whitehaven
and also there is a Jane Harrison who a birth cert or record for her can not be found as I am in contact with her descendant and census gives 1838/9 as her birth year but she has tried to find it  even asking at the Whitehaven rocord office for a search.

I hope to be able to move on with this family and hope that the Pardshaw births and the marriage record can shed more light

Elizabeth Stephenson was from Alston Moor from the census and hope to find further info on her too.
If anyone has anything that can help I would appreciate it

Thank you

Limerick / William Browne policeman
« on: Monday 29 November 10 19:02 GMT (UK)  »
I am researhing for a friend, Flynn/Browne from Limerick.
I have just received the marriage cert  14th April 1902 Cathedral Limerick
of
Gerald Flynn, age 21 bachelor, grocer, 3 Francis Street, father Micheal Flynn Grocer
and
Mary Ellen Browne age 21 spinster of 16,Charlotte Quay,Father William Browne deceased Policeman
witnesses Joseph Comyn and Lizzie Browne

I have the couple in Liverpool Lancashire in 1911 and the census shows that a Sarah Browne1886 St Johns Limerick Ireland and M BrowneWidower (F) 70 1841 Old age pension St Marys Limerick Ireland. are visitors.
I assume that M Browne and Sarah Browne are Mother and sister to Mary Ellen Flynn and also the witness Lizzie Browne on the marriage are all related.

The father William Browne Policeman, is there any information about Policemen in Limerick prior to 1902 when the marriage took place.

Or any other help with this family pre 1911.
