Devon Lookup Requests / St Andrews, Plymouth - WILLIAMS & LIGHT MARRIAGE
« on: Tuesday 20 August 19 12:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have been told that the marriage of John Garland Williams and Rebecca Light took place in St Andrews, Plymouth, Devon, on 7 July 1819.  However, having searched several sites, I cannot find the marriage anywhere.

So, I was wondering if some kind soul may be able to look it up for me, as I am hoping for verification and, possibly, some extra clues.

I would be most grateful for any help on this one, and if I can return the favour here in Cornwall, I should be very happy to do so.

Many thanks
Beccy

Devon Lookup Requests / WILLIAMS/KNIGHT Marriage Yealmpton, Devon
« on: Sunday 28 September 08 14:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi  :)
I am looking for a marriage of a John Williams to a Rebecca Knight, possibly in Yealmpton/Plymouth, Devon. (John Williams' parents I believe were Garland Williams and Elizabeth.)  The couple lived in St Ives, Cornwall, and their first known child Richard was born in 1819 in St Ives.  The last child of this couple was Nancy, who was born in 1843.  Nancy's baptism was to John Williams and Rebecca (nee Knight).

I cannot find a marriage for this couple anywhere in Cornwall, so am hoping they married in Rebecca's home town instead.  In 1841 she was listed as being born in Yealmpton, Devon; the 1861 census says she was born in Plymouth, Devon.  Rebecca was born c. 1797.

Any help on this long-time brick wall would be greatly appreciated  :)

Cornwall Lookup Requests / William SNIGG/SNEAGE/SNAGE
« on: Monday 21 April 08 22:31 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out where my 4th gt grandfather William Snigg originated from, and wonder if anyone has any ideas.  ???

The OPC for Madron has kindly supplied me with the marriage (from Madron parish records) of a William Snigg, widower, to Susannah Eddy, Widow on 10 April 1832.  I can trace Susannah back as marrying Matthew Eddy previous to this, however, I cannot find any information on William Snigg.

The only other information I have is: that both William and Susannah were listed as "of Madron, residing in Penzance"; William was a Confectioner; witnesses at the marriage were Jane Corin and F Read; William Snigg was buried in Madron in March 1838, and Susannah went on to marry for a third time in St Ives.  (The surname Snigg seemed to be spelt in varying ways down through the generations after William.)

Any help would be much appreciated  :)

Having neglected my mother's maternal side of the family I ordered the marriage certificate of my gt gt grandparents, which has thrown up a query.  Would anyone be able to look up a Henry Lugg on the 1901 Census please?

The marriage certificate of Henry Lugg to Susan Batten states that Henry Lugg was a Widower  ???  Details of his second marriage are as follows:
Marriage on 29 January 1918 at Penzance
Henry Lugg, Widower, age 44 years, fisherman, Back Road East, St Ives, Cornwall, Father: John Lander Lugg, Fisherman
Susan Batten, age 26 years, Virgin Street, St Ives.

I have Henry on the 1891 census living with his parents, but I don't know when he married for the first time and whether he was living with his first wife or his parents on the 1901 census.   I am trying to find out who his first wife is, and whether they had any children.

Any help would be much appreciated.  :)
Kind regards, Bex

Devon Lookup Requests / Ilfracombe/Barnstaple Look-up Please - SALMON
« on: Thursday 18 October 07 22:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi there  :)

All my research so far has been centred around Cornwall, but I now find I have relatives that originated from Devon who lived in the Ilfracombe area.  This is where I am stuck....

Robert Salmon married Mary Sumers on 3 January 1726 in Barnstaple, Devon.  All their children were baptised  between 1728 and 1744 in Ilfracombe, which is also where subsequent generations lived.

I am trying to find out when Robert Salmon and Mary Sumers were born, and who their parents were.  Unfortunately I cannot get to the Devon Records Office at the moment, and cannot find any information for the right time period online.

Any help on this one would be much appreciated.  And if anyone has any queries related to Cornwall I am always only too happy to help.

Many thanks  :)
