Berkshire / Daniel GIBSON 1791-1853
« on: Monday 10 January 22 01:44 GMT (UK)  »
According to 1851 census Daniel GIBSON was born in Berksfield, Berkshire. He was sixty so born c1790-91.

He was in the Lambeth workhouse and died there in Jan 1853. He had married Rebecca MARSH in London in 1817 and they had six known children, all born Lambeth, Surrey.
Martha 1819
George 1820
Charles 1822
Rebecca 1824
Daniel 1829
Maria 1834

Can anyone help with the birthplace or find someone of this name born 1790-91. Might be a red herring as 1841 he was in Lambeth and born in county.

Have everything pretty much on the children so do not need anything on them, just Daniel.

Daniel GIBSON (1790-1853) married Rebecca MARSH (1790-1849) on 7 Sep 1817 at St James Paddington.

They had six known children
Martha 1819-? married William BEARDMORE in 1838. He died 1848.
George 1820-1846 married Betsey Mercy GREGORY in 1844
Charles 1822-?
Rebecca 1823-1916 married John REMINGTON 1841 came to NZ
Daniel 1829-1888 married Charlotte STURTRIDGE 1849 went to Australia c1852
Maria 1834-1915 went to Australia with Daniel married 1853 to William WATSON, to NZ 1854.

Were there any other children? Gaps between some of them big enough for others.

What happened to Martha? Possibly had a daughter Elizabeth Rebecca in 1841. Not the William and Martha in Harper St Lambeth in 1841. They end up in Staffordshire in 1851.

What happened to Charles?

Australia / Arthur and Annie WEBSTER
« on: Sunday 09 January 22 20:05 GMT (UK)  »
Arthur WEBSTER married Annie WATSON in NSW on 7 Dec 1910.

Arthur (not William) was born 1885 in Redfern NSW, son of Andrew WEBSTER and Jessie DOUGLAS.

Annie was born 7 Dec 1889 in Wellington, NZ, daughter of William WATSON and Elizabeth BOYCE.

Can anyone find what happened to them after that.

Can't find any children born NSW or deaths in NSW.

Believe Annie may have had nickname of Joe.

Many thanks

New Zealand / William and Maria WATSON in wellington
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 10:04 GMT (UK)  »
William WATSON married Maria GIBSON in Melbourne in 1853. She had arrived there about 1852 with her older brother Daniel GIBSON and his wife Charlotte.

Daniel and Charlotte stayed in Victoria but William and Maria came to Wellington in 1854.

They had seven children that I am aware of, all born in Wellington. Some trees on Ancestry say differently. There was another William and Maria WATSON having children about the same time but they were all born in Christchurch area.

Elizabeth Ann 1856-1868
Un-named child 1858 - believe this to be a male (from fiche index)
Esther 1860-1939 - married Frederick LAMBERG
James 1862-?
Annie 1863-1863
Emma 1864-1953 - married Edwin TAYLOR
Annie 1867-1934 - married William John BRANIGAN

Not looking for anything on the married daughters but would like confirmation that the un-named male belongs to this family and not the Chch one, and also what his name was. Also what happened to James born 1862. Have looked in all the usual places but can't see one that fits.

As an aside Maria GIBSON's older sister Rebecca arrived in NZ in 1842 as the wife of John REMINGTON, who are my ancestors. Not looking for anything on them either, just the two male WATSONs.

Need some fresh eyes.

Is anyone able to tell me where this area was in the Wairarapa please. Believe it is near Masterton somewhere, possibly Upper Plain.

According to various Electoral Rolls in the 1860s and 1870s Thomas Henry Clapham had 950 acres there Freehold, on Smith and Revans and JH Northwoods Runs.

Australia / William Walpole CLARKE 1857-1937
« on: Monday 04 October 21 04:24 BST (UK)  »
William arrived in Victoria prior to 1888 as he married Emily RUTHERFORD at St Georges Church, Nhill on 10 July 1888. Left not long after as their first child was born back in England in April 1889. He was born in India, went to Oxford University in England and was a clergyman.

Trying to establish when he did arrive and whether or not he had one of his sisters with him. His sister was Ethel Douglas CLARKE and at some time in 1888 or 1889 she arrived in New Zealand, as she married there in Nov 1889.

Have looked through various passenger lists but so far drawn a blank.

Hoping some fresh eyes can find something.

Many thanks
