Hello,
Located the Spinks family on the electoral roll for Ellison St in 1918 to early 1920s and wonder if the Spinks children were baptised in nearest C of E church, Christ Church.  The children of Henry (Harry) Barker SPINKS and wife Jane Elizabeth born at that time were Hilda Spinks, born 21 May 1918; Edward Spinks, born 02 April 1920; Thomas Spinks, born June qtr 1922; Mary Elizabeth, born March qtr 1924 but dying almost immediately.
The family may have been in Ellison St earlier than 1918, so baptisms for Isaac Spinks 12/02/1916; Rachel Spinks, born 02/12/1914 and Henry Tennant Spinks, born June qtr 1913 may also be a Christ Church.  I think St Paul's would be too far away East from Ellison St.
If anyone has the time to check at Durham Record Office and send me the baptism details I'd be very grateful.
Thanks very much - Richard.

Hello,
I have located some Richardsons to Horden (also called Horden Colliery in some records) in the Easington RD.  If someone could please look up some marriages, I guess St Mary's church, I'd be grateful.  I have only the registration quarter.  John Richardson in the Sept qtr 1931 to Ivy Gladys Appleby.  Also Albert Richardson in the Sept. qtr 1935 to Margaret Kyle.
If time allows, children of the Richardson / Appleby marriage may also be baptised at St Mary's, Horden: Alice Richardson, born June qtr 1931; John, born June qtr 1934 and Henry on 28/Sept/1939.  Henry and his mother Ivy Richardson were civilian casualties of WW2 dying 7 Nov. 1941 at 37 South Crescent, Horden.
Thank you very much - RH.

My grandmother had several cousins who emigrated to Canada.  They were the children of Michael Kelly and of Morgan Kelly, brothers of her father Thomas.  Daniel Thomas b.1892 and his younger brother John Kelly b.1893, (sons of Morgan) are found on a passenger list emigrating in July 1913 on the "Ionian", final destination Orillia township, Simcoe county, Ontario.  But I don't know what became of them except for docs showing Daniel was part of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in WW1, where he refers to his wife Ellen.  They may have married in England in the June quarter 1913. but I have not found her emigration, possibly with baby daughter Mary Ann.  Later in March 1919 the men's mother Mary Ann b.c.1865 widow of Morgan Kelly and their siblings, Hannah b.1898, Nora b.1900 and Francis Kelly b.1904 are found on a passenger list on the "Megatama" from Liverpool to St John's, New Brunswick.
Children of the other brother Michael Kelly seem to have found their way to Canada too but I have not found them on passenger lists.  A source on familysearch has a daughter Catherine Kelly, b.1887 dying in McBride, British Columbia in June 1964.  I don't have access to the 1921 or later censuses so would appreciate any info on these people and any immigration and BMD information, as time allows.
If by any remote chance you are a Kelly descendant, FindMyPast (commercial website) is now putting online RC marriages and baptisms, including these above Kellys, to which I have access.  So one good turn deserves another.  Thanks very much RH

Hello,
Especially for Bill747 who has put up Look-up offers for Dover and Deal.

A relative Charles Thomas Hassell of 49 Biggin St, Dover died aged 40 of consumption in Dover - the funeral was at St Mary's, Dover on maybe 22 or 28 March.  I think it was reported in the "Dover Express". but do not know which issue.  Could someone please find this newspaper in the Dover archives (I guess it is a weekly paper) for late March 1913 and tell me what the death notice or obit says?  A bonus would be a full scan of the obit and sent via personal message (to get round copyright), but just the details would be enough.  The family were from N. London and I have no idea what they were doing in Dover.
Thank you, Richard.

Hertfordshire Lookup Offers / Postcard album of Miss Elsie Downham
« on: Sunday 28 October 12 21:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
Please see the 'unwanted artefacts' section (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,621610.0.html), but put here if someone does a sweep on Hertfordshire.

I have in possession (found at tip) an Edwardian postcard album 9.5 inches x 11.5 inches, half full of 73 cards sent to Miss Elsie Downham at London House, Puckeridge, Herts or to her at Camden House School, Biggleswade, Bedfordshre.  From the messages on those that are written, Elsie was a schoolgirl and the postmarks are dated 1909 - 1912, so born perhaps c.1900.  Contact me if you are a relative and I'll hand it over.

Thanks, rihuggett

Unwanted Certificates & Artefacts / Edwardian postcard album of Miss Elsie Downham
« on: Sunday 28 October 12 21:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have in possession an Edwardian postcard album 9.5 inches x 11.5 inches, half full of 73 cards sent to Miss Elsie Downham at London House, Puckeridge, Herts or to her at Camden House School, Biggleswade, Bedfordshre.  From the messages on those that are written, Elsie was a schoolgirl and the postmarks are dated 1909 - 1912, so born perhaps c.1900.
Some are commercial Christmas or Birthday postcards, others are views of English sea resorts, Bournemouth, Brighton, Southend etc.  There are no family portrait postcards so of limited genealogical interest though the writing and the picture side gives a certain period flavour.
I rescued the album from my local tip (waste management site) and want to give the album to  bonafide relative of Elsie's (hopefully not to the person who ditched it in the tip).  While it is not of any real monetary value I would like to be sure no dealers claim it as theirs, so if you are a relative of Elsie's please reply to this post with proofs or send a personal message (scroll icon) and I'll check them out before arranging a time/place for collection.

Thanks, rihuggett

Durham Lookup Requests / Marriage lookups 1890s South Shields name: Spinks
« on: Saturday 07 July 12 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I think these are brother and sister, the surname should be Spink (a Norfolk surname), but in co. Durham it became Spinks:
Henry Edward Spinks married 01/08/1898 St Jude’s, South Shields Julia Hill.

Elizabeth Spinks married 01/01/1894 St Mark’s, South Shields William Miller.

Can a rootschatter please look up these marriages and give me all the information contained?

Thanks very much, Richard.

Hello,
Look-up wanted please in parish baptism registers in Seaside area as follows:

The following children of William Richard and Clara HASSELL were baptised in Eastbourne in early 1900s, could someone find the date and church, father's trade please?  Older children baptised in C of E churches in N. London.
Walter Leonard, born 13/07/1900 Hornsey - baptism not found in London and family were in Latimer Rd, Eastbourne in 1901 census, so conclude he might have been baptised in Eastbourne.
   Ernest Reginald, born 02/06/1903 Eastbourne
   Gladys Violet, born 24/11/1905 Eastbourne
   Eileen Grace, born 19/05/1909 Eastbourne
Muriel Gwendoline, born 01/06/1913 Eastbourne.  In 1911 the family had moved to Pevensey Rd., Eastbourne.

Very grateful, Richard Huggett - the children were my father's aunts & uncles.
