Buckinghamshire / Stephen Puddephatt

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone out there can help. I am trying to confirm whether or not the Stephen Puddephatt who was born in about 1813/1814 in Chesham, Bucks and who married Elizabeth Adams on 20/10/1833 in Chesham, Bucks and who died in June 1856, aged 44, in Tyler's Hill, Chesham, Bucks (buried 15/06/1856 at St, Mary's Chesham, Bucks), was the son of Stephen Puddephatt (1793-1867) and Lydia Nash (1796-1833). Stephen and Lydia were not married until 16/04/1818, but I know that this doesn't always mean anything.

Via various on-line trees Stephen's parents are recorded as Stephen and Lydia, John Puddephatt and Ruth Elbourne and John Puddephatt and Ann Foord.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Fanny Collins

Hi,

I am looking for any details for a Fanny Collins, born in Godstone, Surrey, England in 1856 to a Robert Collins and Rose/Rosa Elliff. Robert died in 1857 but I believe that Fanny and, maybe, Rose/Rosa may have emigrated to Australia. Sadly, if correct, Fanny Collins may have died there in 1861. Can anyone help me with this family?

Hi,

Has anyone got access to the image of this marriage? I know that the marriage took place on 19/05/1834 in St Clement Danes, Westminster but am trying to find out if there were any relevant witnesses present. Would also like to find out if they were both able to sign their own names.

Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Rees family from Milford, Steynton, Haverfordwest.

Hi,

Am trying to find any births, marriages, deaths for the Rees(e) family from Milford.

I have found the marriage of Thomas Rees & Martha Williams 05/11/1804 in Steynton, Pembrokeshire. He was a labourer. Martha died in 1842 & Thomas in 1846 both in Milford, Steynton.

I have only been able to trace, (possibly) two of their children: David, a mariner/stoker, born 08/12/1805, who married??, (I have been unable to trace a marriage), a Mary Ann Cornish before 1841. She originated from Southwark, London.

Thomas & Martha's may also have had, (at least), one other son: John, (born c1807),a coachman, who married Hester/Esther. John & Esther/Hester had at least one child, John, born c1835. Esther also appears in 1851 widowed,with a daughter, Martha, aged 2 months (unsure if this is John's daughter as I think he may have been deceased by 1841). I have been unable to trace John & Esther/Hester's marriage.

I have been looking for any other children of Thomas & Martha for some years with no joy so it would be really great if I could trace them now. I would also like to confirm that John was a son of theirs and, if so, when he was born.

David & Mary Ann Cornish had a daughter, Hannah, (as well as a daughter, Martha, born & died in 1844 & a son Samuel Benjamin, born 1845), who is recorded as aged 8 in the 1851 census. I can find no birth details for her nor can I trace any further information about her. Where did she disappear to??

Hester/Esther & daughter, Martha, also disappear after the 1851 census.

Am looking for any births/deaths/marriages that might give me some answers to my queries. My great-great grandfather, Samuel Benjamin Rees, was born 17/09/1845 to David Rees and Mary Ann Cornish. He went on to become a Baptist Minister so maybe the rest of the family were also Baptists??.

If you are unable to help are there any genealogists in the area that you could recommend?

Hi,

I am trying to trace any siblings of David Rees, born 08/12/1805, in Milford, Steynton, Pembrokeshire. I believe his parents were Thomas Rees, a labourer & Martha Williams, who married 15/11/1804 in Steynton, Pembrokeshire.

In 1841 Thomas & Martha are living in Third St, (later named Back St & then Robert St), Steynton, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire. Living with them is daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Rees, an Esther (or Hester) Rees, aged 26 & John Rees aged, aged 5.

Mary Ann Rees was married to their son, David, a mariner, who was, presumably, out on the seas somewhere and I did originally assume that Esther was a daughter of Thomas & Martha, (although there is a big gap between David born in 1805 & Esther not until 1815/1816), but now suspect that she may have been another daughter-in-law. It is not recorded if Esther is widowed, married or single. I also made the assumption that John was a son of David & Mary Ann but now believe him to be a son of Esther's.

I have traced a widowed Esther Reese, who in the 1851 census, is aged 33, living with son, John, aged 16, a Blacksmith and daughter, Martha, aged 2 months. Esther is now a lodging house keeper & the family are living in Back Street, Steynton. I have been unable to trace any further records of the family after this with any certainty.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Hi,

I am trying to trace Frederick Holt, born 1836, in Blackfriars, London to Alfred & Mary Holt (nee Fearn). He was baptised 06/05/1838 in Hertfordshire. He married Clara Skinner in Cambridgeshire in 1860 & they went on to have a son, William Frederick Holt, whose birth was registered Q3 1875 in Holborn, London district. I have managed to trace the couple in the 1871 census but by 1881 Clara is living with a John Fry & has adopted the surname Fry. She continued to use the surname Fry until her death in Sussex, in 1923, aged 85. John Fry died on 22/06/1893 and Clara is named in his National Probate Record as 'Clara Holt, spinster'.

I have been unable to trace any details for Frederick after the 1871 census or their son William Frederick after the registration of his birth.

Can anyone help to track down Frederick and/or William Frederick Holt?

Hi,

Just checked for a registration of birth via the GRO index iro an Ann Jefferson, whose birth was registered Q2 1842 in Carlisle & her mother's maiden name is recorded as 'A.I.Y'. Does anyone know what this means or is it just a typo? I was expecting to see either the name 'Clayton' or 'Rowell'.

Hi,

Can anyone help me decipher a word in a handwritten note beside the marriage of my ancestor William Hudson on 18/06/1772 at St Dunstan's & All Saints, Stepney. It says 'it appears from the register of his baptism ........ (then the word I cannot make out) in this book that he was baptised William Thomas' ?

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Am looking for the Ball/Martin family in the 1851 census. In the 1841 census they are living a 9, Charlotte St, Bethnal Green, London. Father Edward Ball, a labourer, born in 1806 (also recorded as a general dealer on children's M/C), mother Sarah, born 1811. Children Edward, aged 14, Mary,11, Sarah, aged 8, Hannah, aged 5, John, aged 3 & Maria, aged 2 weeks.

I have been unable to trace a marriage record for Edward & Sarah and, in later years, the children reverted to their mother's surname of Martin. There is at least one other child, a son William Henry, born in Bethnal Green in 1847/1848. He is my 2 x great granddad & he went on to marry Rachel Hudson & then Sarah Ann Starr. I am trying to trace him in 1851.
