London and Middlesex / Access to microfilm for St. Luke Charlton next Woolwich?
« on: Wednesday 29 November 23 18:17 GMT (UK)  »
I do not seem to be able to find browsable microfilm for an 1833 marriage performed at St. Luke Old Charlton.  I am looking for witnesses as I believe the bride and groom are both from out of parish as she had a child 2 months afterwards.  I believe the groom to be from Deptford St. Paul and the bride to be from Greenwich St. Alphege but the bride's identity is very fragmentary and there are multiple candidates for her parents.  Hoping to find a sibling or parent as a witness that will help ID which candidate she is.  I have access to ancestry and to family search, but am in US so local history center access is not feasible.  Any suggestions?

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Dewney or Downey of Fareham
« on: Monday 20 March 23 18:44 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for two (probably) related women: the first one - married in Fareham 4 May 1742 to Saunders Guyer (possibly the shipwright (1705-1798) - was a Mary Downey (Dunwey/Duwney).  The second is a woman - Elizabeth Guyer (putative daughter of the above Saunders & Mary) who married Samuel Tyler 24 Sept 1764 at St. Alphege in Greenwich - - and one of the witnesses at that marriage was one "Elizabeth Dewnly".   Has to be a cousin or an aunt?  The Guyers were shipwrights so a Portsea/Deptford connection is highly likely.

Here's my problem: I cannot find Downey/Dewnly/Dunwey/Duwney surnames in Fareham in the 1710-1765 timeframe.  Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Good evening!  There is a parish record of a marriage in North Nibley on 4 Dec 1757.  The groom's name is Charles Tilly but the bride's surname is unfamiliar and not easy to make out: Linegar? Sinegar? Pinegar?  I'd appreciate some help from any fresh set of eyes who may be familiar with unusual surnames in the Cam and/or North Nibley area from the mid- late- 1700's.  Thanks in advance!

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Portsea St. Mary's marriages 1814
« on: Tuesday 04 February 20 16:59 GMT (UK)  »
Are there any image collections for Portsea St. Mary's in the 1810-1820 timeframe?  I am interested in a marriage that took place 22 Dec 1814 between a George Eaton bachelor and Elizabeth Tyler widow.  I am trying to find more information on this Elizabeth Tyler to determine if she is the Elizabeth who was married to Henry Tyler.  A film image of parish records might be of some help. I can find no record of Henry's death.  He was noted in 1799 as a laborer in the shipyard, and had at least three sons born between 1800 and 1806 (Henry, William, and Edward).  Any help greatly appreciated.

The Common Room / What is happening to FamilySearch and Ancestry and Kent OPC?
« on: Monday 29 October 18 20:01 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone else noticed that the searches in the IGI and Ancestry are suddenly showing many fewer "hits", and many of those to only an index entry rather than the film image?  Or is it just me?  My subscription is at the World Explorer level and the search results are meager.  Also, does anyone know what is happening to the Kent Online Parish Clerks?  It seems many previously available parishes have "disappeared".

« on: Friday 20 January 17 00:59 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to microfilm for Deptford St. Nicholas (there seems to be a microfilm gap just where I need to research):

Peter (or, possibly "J. Peter - James, Joseph, other?) Tyler born about 1844-45, the sibs before an after him were bapt. at St. Nicholas.  Father's name would be William (occupation should be listed as mariner) and mother Eliza.   Looking for his full name and bapt. and/or birth dates.  Help is always greatly appreciated.

Canada Lookup Request / 1937 newspaper article British Columbia drowning
« on: Wednesday 16 December 15 13:42 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone has access to BC newspaper archives/film regarding a drowning that occurred on 17 Oct 1937.  The individual disappeared from a ferry (no info on which, where from or destination), drowned, body not recovered.  Not sure if it was Victoria or Vancouver where the newspaper article may be found.  The individual was Ethel Maud (nee Tilley) Condon Connor born 1888 in Newfoundland.  She may have had yet another surname at time of incident as there is family lore indicating she was married three times, twice in BC, although we have not found record of a marriage subsequent to her 1925 (second) marriage to Leo C. Connor.  So, I'd be looking for a newspaper article on a date subsequent to 17 Oct in which the incident is mentioned, her married surname at time of incident, etc.  Any help would be appreciated.
