Yorkshire (North Riding) / Can anyone explain why !!
« on: Friday 19 June 20 15:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My Great Great Grandparents were Maurice and Catherine McAuliffe, from Cork. They married in Middlesbough in 1861.

I have managed to find the births deaths and marriages of all  their children, under various spellings of that name, not a easy task ! it took me years.

It took me many years also,to find them on any census, apart from 1861,before they married.....When I DID find them, they were  using the name Gould.

1871 att 10 Mineral Street. Middlesborough
1881 at 69, Hymer Street, Ormesby . Maurice transcribed as Horace
1891 Maurice was in hospital, as  Gould, but died very shortly afterwards, as McAuliffe

Can anyone come up with a reason for the name change, it has baffled me for years.

Many thanks

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Electoral rolls, Stone,Staffordshire

Hello There,

Could you please tell me where these can be accessed please ? Over the phone, or by email....

I know that the gentleman I am researching, lived at  the same address for 32 years. He died last week in the Nursing Home that my daughter owns. He has no relatives, that we can find. We are trying to find the name of his wife, so that we can put some sort of eulogy together, and hopefully reunite them, if we can find out who she was.

I have found out who his parents were. His father died in 1985.

Thank You.

Hi Guys..

Simple question. Can a NHS number tell you where it was issued?

I know that  they were not issued until 1948,and the gentleman I am researching was born in 1940, but i cannot be sure where he was born.

I am grasping at straws !!

Mayo / Strudgeon/ Strogen marriage to Ann Dunbar
« on: Tuesday 20 November 18 23:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi There

I have to admit total defeat !!

I have the marriage of Eliza STRUGEON to Michael Culkin on 20th January 1878, but I cannot find any marriage for her parents, Robert Strudgeon (he died 5th December 1881 age 46 ) and Ann Dunbar, born c1841, I Have tried every variation of names I can think of.

It would also be nice if I can find their births too. To get back one generation would be super.....

In 1901 Anne was living with the Culkins, and also in 1911 at Carrower, Sallymount, Mayo.

Many Thanks

Ireland / Maurice McAuliffe c1837 Father Darby
« on: Saturday 25 August 18 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello There,

I do hope someone can help.

On the 1861 marriage certificate of my 3 x Grandparents, Maurice is 24 years old, and states that his father is Darby McAuliffe,a farm labourer. His bride was Catherine Stack, whose family I have managed to trace back another generation (from Cork )

I have not been so lucky with Maurice. All he states on the ( English ) census, is that he was born in Ireland.

I understand ,that in some parts of Ireland the name Darby and Jeremiah are intertwined . I cannot find a baptism for my ancestor on Rootsireland for which I have a subscription. Is there another site I can use ? I would love to find Maurice's mother, and go back at least one more generation.

I do not know how relevant it is, but on at least two census, the family are using the name Gould. It is definitely my family. All their children were born with the name McAuliffe, or variations thereof, but are using the surname Gould(in North Ormesby )

Any help,or advice gratefully received.

Technical Help / Downloading a Family Tree to CD
« on: Thursday 26 July 18 13:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi Guys, and Gals.

Advice needed please.

What is the best way to download a tree,so that it can be shown to others easily ?

I have done a family tree for a friend. Normally I would make it into a PDF and send it by email, but this would make it difficult to share with other members of her family ( Older, in their 70's and 80's ) at a Family get together

I have built the tree on Family Historian. It is a all relatives chart
My computer is a Lenovo G50

I have thought about down loading it to a CD .
A) How do I do it ? What kind of CD do I use
B) Can it then be shown on any computer ?
C) Can it be shown on a TV screen through a DVD player ?

Same three questions, re a memory stick

Any other suggestions ? If this is not feasible, I will get it printed by My History, but time is getting short .

Thankyou

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Berinstein/Bernstein from Mariampol Russia
« on: Monday 02 July 18 03:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello There.

Can anyone advise me on where to look for further information on Louis Berinstein born c1863, and Nathan born c1871 at Mariampol, Russia , now Lithuania.
I believe that the boys father was Zvi Hersh. There may be other children, possibly Simon

I have searched the Jewishgen site, to no avail.

I have heard that MyHeritage may the  have information I seek. Can anyone verify this please.

Its becoming a obsession, to get another generation back, I am afraid .

Many thanks, for help, suggestions etc.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Where do I look for naturalization papers ?
« on: Thursday 14 June 18 12:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi Guys...

I have a family , Isaac and Betsy Berinstein/Bernstein (and variations thereof ! ) Their first child was born in England 1886, I cannot find a marriage for them here.

They were both born c1863, and Betsy states Kishinev, Russia as place of birth

Where do I look for further information please. Natralization would put flesh on the bones to start.

Thank You
