Hi Everyone,

12 Feb 1894, 20 year old Eliza Byne married Charles Lewis, at St Augustine's in South Hackney. Her father is listed as Henry Byne , occupation Builder. On the 4th of May 1874 an Eliza Jane Bynes was baptized at St Michael and All Angels. Her parents were Henry and Maria Bynes . Henry is listed as a labourer . Another child John Edward Bynes was baptized 04 Dec 1871 at the same church. On 10 Sep 1871 a Henry Bynes, labourer,  married Maria Parker at St James the Great in Bethnal Green. Both are shown of full age. Henry's father is shown as Thomas Bynes , a plasterer.

A search of the 1881 census for this family found only the mother Maria Bynes and her children living at 17 John Street in Hackney. Maria is shown as married, age 44, an invalid and born Whitechapel. The two children are aged 9 and 7 and also born Whitechapel. There is a death registered in Hackney Dec 1881 for a Maria Bynes age 43.  I believe the children in the 1891 census may be at 17b Hose Road, Walthamstow, Essex, in the home of Alexander Cunningham and his wife Sarah. They are listed as Brother and Sister in Law. FreeBMD shows a marriage in 1884 between Sarah Parker and Alexander Cunningham. In 1891 census Sarah was recorded as 30 years of age. Her  relationship to Maria Parker is unknown.

I have not been able to find Henry in 1881 or any other census. There is a possible sighting in the 1841, in Westminster (HO 107/733/8) a family headed by Thomas Bynes a plasterer, shows a 10 year old Henry Bynes.

Any help locating Henry in any of the censuses is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

Sussex / Wisborough Green - Garton Family
« on: Sunday 04 August 13 17:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am researching the family of Ann Garton  who married John Beeching at Wisborough Green 29 Oct 1778. Ann would seem to be the daughter of Josiah Garton and Sarah Goodwin who married 17 Nov 1747 also Wisborough Green.  Her father Josiah was a butcher and I believe died about 1781. I have no idea who his parents were but the best current prospects are John Garton and Elizabeth Hammond of Billingshurst.  Her mother Sarah is also a bit of a mystery. There is a marriage recorded in the Sussex Marriage Index, 10 May 1781, between Sarah Garton widow and Richard Puttock widower. I also have notes of a monumental inscription in the Wisborough Green Church Yard which is for Sarah Garton wife of Josiah Garton who "departed this life 18th July 1769 age 55 years". I am not aware of another Sarah and Josiah Garton in Wisborough Green, so have always thought this MI was for Sarah Goodwin. The marriage record to Richard Puttock puts a big question mark in that theory unless there was another Sarah Garton. Can anyone help me sort this out?

Thanks, all thoughts welcome,
Jack Beeching

Hi, is anyone able to identify the place of birth for the following individual?

Ann England, age 79 years, address, Ratley, Warwickshire, Piece 916, Folio 11, Page 16.

Looks like it might be Wooton by Euly, but I can't find any place by that name, so must be something else.

Thanks,

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / HALE Family North Nibley
« on: Friday 06 May 11 02:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

John Hale, a weaver of Wotton under Edge married Elizabeth Phelps 25 Nov 1604, at North Nibley. Quite a few researches are showing a second marriage for John 26 Jan 1623/24 at North Nibley to Anna Williams. I have been unable to find a burial for Elizabeth, and wondered if anyone had access to the PRs and could help me with a look up.
Transcripts I have seen at    http://allthecotswolds.com  show an Elizabeth Hale daughter of John buried in North Nibley 23 Mar 1618/19. This John is of "Sp??combe". The next Elizabeth Hale in this transcript is wife of John buried 16 May 1641.

Thanks,

Jack

John BRAY and Jane CRIDLAND married 04 Jun 1785, at Watchet, St Decuman, after banns. If anyone has access to these records I wonder if there is any indication that John Bray was from elsewhere. I am searching for a John BRAY and Jane ( unknown ) who had children baptized at North Tamerton, Cornwall. NT baptisms start about 1790.

Essex / ADAMS ? LAWRENCE families Coggeshall c 1620
« on: Monday 08 December 08 15:53 GMT (UK)  »
William ADAMS married Susan LAWRENCE 25 Jul 1620, at Coggeshall. The couple had five children baptized there before emigrating to America about 1633. The PRs for this time frame are very difficult to read. If anyone has any suggestions what else might be available to find the parents of this couple, all hints welcome.

Jack
