Technical Help / .fdb files - how to open, please Completed, with thanks.
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 15:02 BST (UK)  »
Hallo Folks,

can anyone give me an idea of how to open a(n) .fdp  mean .fdb file please?

We have a programme where the address book is in this format and I would like to open it and print out the e-mail addresses to keep.

I have had a good look around the internet, have found out that it could be a registry problem, have downloaded Uniblue Registry Boost (some people will probably now say: How on earth could you do that!

It found numerable registry problems - it corrected about 25 and then I need to register and buy the programme to correct the rest  Is it worth buying  Or is there another way of opening this file.

Thanks for reading.

Technical Help / Firefox Bookmarks - open and close. Again quickly completed. Thanks
« on: Wednesday 18 August 10 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hallo,

might be a silly question, but when using IE and bookmarks, after opening them and choosing one, the bookmark-window closes automatically, leaving a larger screen.

How does one automatically close the bookmarks in FIREFOX after opening and choosing one without clicking on the  X-button?

Thanks, and I do hope that someone understands what I mean :-[

A probably embarrassed ('cos someone will say it is easy!)   Viv

Technical Help / Help: USB Mobile Internet Stick 120 - T-Mobile
« on: Monday 10 May 10 19:15 BST (UK)  »
Hallo,

I am asking this question for my brother. He is in hospital at the moment and we are trying to connect a USB Mobile Internet stick so that we can communicate via Skype etc.

As far as I am aware, the Stick has been installed correctly.  Operating system is Windows XP.

He keeps getting the following message:    "Driver is not intended for this platform". ZTE CDMA Technologies

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could mean.

My brother knows his way around computers, so if anyone could give me/us some help I can let him know what to do.

Thanks in advance,

Viv

Me again with my Jury clan  :)

Found Abigail Jury b. 1855 in Plymouth in the 1861 Census

RG09, 665, 42,  13 with mother Mary Ann and siblings living in Milford, Hampshire.

Looked on FreeBMD, FindMyPast.   Cannot find a birth/death or marriage date, nor can I find her in the subssequent censuses.

Would be pleased if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks a lot,

Viv

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / 1881 Census Benjamin Jury b. ca. 1821 Kent
« on: Saturday 06 February 10 17:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I know - the 1881 Census is free and I have a FindMyPast sub, but I still cannot find this evasive ancestor.

b. 1821 in Kent
Married 1848 in East Wickham to Mary Ann Hunt

1861  Census  RG9, 665, 43, 16 (Living in Milford, Hampshire at Ivy Bank Cottages with Family Strictland etc.)

1871 Census RG10, 276, 50, 6 (Living in Islington St John, 25 Rupert Road with children Alice, Madelene, Margaret, William- wife is deceased).

Death in 1883 in Islington East on 25.10.

Would love to find him in the 1881 Census - if anyone feels like searching, I would be very grateful.

Thanks
Viv

P.S.  Cannot find him in earlier census 'cos he was in the Army.

Wales / Results FindMyPast and Ancestry- Completed, thank you
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hallo Folks,

Might be a wierd query, but I am having a problem with results from FindMyPast and Ancestry.

For example:  Ancestry 1861  searched for Mary Donovan, b. 1833 - found under RG 9, 4007, 64, 64  with John Donovan b. 1831, Catherine b. 1853, John b. 1856, Joseph (should be Jeremiah) b. 1860 and Ellen b. 1806.  Trevethin, Pontypool, Monmouthshire (Stret Address: Sowhill)

Searched for same in FindMyPast - no luck -  have they not transcribed everything yet?

I know it might be a funy query - yes, I already have the information, but somhow I have the feeling that FindMyPast does not have a lot of the info that Ancestry has.   This has happened several times when I want to check information that I have.

Might be wrong and me not using the right search criteria.

Could someone enlighten me?

Thanks,

Viv

Technical Help / .pps File
« on: Tuesday 12 January 10 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
I receive various mails with a .pps file attached.

I know that it is a Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow file.

I have downloaded from the Microsoft Site the appropriate file, but when I try to open it I keep getting a message that I should go to Control Panel, then Folder Option.

I have deleted the Microsoft PPS file, but no problem getting it back, if I know what to do afterwards.

I know that I have to "activate" something to make it work, but after several attempts am at a loss what to do.

Thanks in advance,

Viv
