Suffolk / COOPER - Harleston
« on: Saturday 25 October 08 15:37 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information about the Cooper family in Harleston.
In the 1871 census My GGGrandmother Elizabeth Smith nee Cooper gave her birth place as Harleston, she was born about 1800, and I have recently found a marriage announcement for her marriage to my GGGrandfather John Smith in the Ipswich Chronicle and she is described as Miss Cooper of Harleston Hall.
Was Harleston Hall a farm?
Any info would be gratefully received,
Thanks.

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Harleston parish lookup COOPER please COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 22:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am looking for the baptism and therefore a little more info on my ggggreat grandmother who was possibly born in Harleston on 1/1/1800. I have her birth place from the census and her birth date from my Grandmother. She was allegedly a twin so if there were any other Coopers baptised at the same time even better.
Thank you,
Seebee

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / A photo in a bit of a pickle.
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 21:29 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to do anything with this.
It is a rare photo of my GGrandfather who died during WWI the photo was taken in 1914. It seems to have another ghost photo over the top and seems to have been drawn on at some point. From the angle it was taken from I think it was taken by a child.
Thanks.

« on: Tuesday 14 November 06 17:11 GMT (UK)  »
I almost feel cheeky asking but can anyone help my poor fading Great Grandmother. The photo is very raggy and someone has gone at her with a biro I think.
I would really appreciate any improvements.
Thanks

The Common Room / Arthur Hollberry Stanford
« on: Sunday 12 November 06 22:14 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any information about my Mum's Uncle. Until six months ago we didn't know he existed. His name was Arthur Hollberry Stanford He was born in 1896 in Cambridge his mother was Elsie Stanford. He would have been my Granny's half brother but I am pretty sure she didn't know he exsisted.
On the 1901 census he is living in Grantchester Cambridge with his aunt Ada Lander nee Stanford as her adopted son. I have yet to find out anything else.
We would like to know what became of him.
I have posted this in the Cambridgeshire section also but the chances of him moving away from Cambridge are fairly good.

Europe / France: Tracing GG Grandparents
« on: Sunday 29 October 06 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my GG Grandparents. They were Charles Henri Pourchot (known as Henri) born about 1836 and Antoinette Alexandrina Rosalie Hanet (known as Rose) born about 1846. They were both born in France but I don't know where.

They came to London sometime before the 1881 census as Henri worked as a language teacher for the Deacons family (of Williams Deacons bank).

They had three children all born in London Georges, Blanche and Alfred. Georges died young and I think Alfred moved back to France. Blanche was my G Grandmother.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Surrey / COBHAM
« on: Monday 23 October 06 10:42 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know Cobham?
On the 1891 census my G Grandmother was living as an "inmate" in a place that although it is hard to read looks like "Footlands" recorded next to "Poynters farm".
The head of the household is Adelaide Adams who is described as the Matron. There is my G Grandmother and five other girls and four boys, also inmates, all born in London and between the ages of 14 and 4 years.
If anyone could shed some light on what this institution might have been I would be very grateful.
Thanks.
