Warwickshire / George Mammatt buried in Witton Cemetery
« on: Saturday 18 April 20 17:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
George Mammatt was born in Birmingham in 1827, third son of Edward and Amelia Mammatt, brother of my g.grandfather, Joseph Mammatt. He was a shoemaker and at 1881 Census, he was an inmate in the Workhouse Infirmary, Winsom Green, Birmingham. He died there and was buried in a common grave in Witton Cemetery in 1893. The gravesite location is Section 153, Grave No. 40391.
Unfortunately, I did not have this information when I visited the UK in 2014 (for the last time), and I would very much like to have a photo of this gravesite. If anyone visits Witton, I wonder if they could spare the time to locate this gravesite, take a photo and e-mail it to me. I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I would be very appreciative.

Hi all,

If two people have a common grandfather but different mothers (not grandmothers), are they still first cousins?

Derbyshire / Where is he buried?
« on: Saturday 04 May 19 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
William Jowett was born in Mellor, Derbyshire, 11/10/1862 and died there 12/08/1923. He married Effie Jean Smith in Bristol, 14/02/1900.
I wish to find details of William's burial....where, when, grave inscription and hopefully, to obtain a photo of his headstone. It appears he was not buried in St Thomas, Mellor, churchyard.
William was associated with the wadding manufacturing industry in Mellor.
Would appreciate any information.

The Common Room / Illegitimate child
« on: Sunday 18 May 14 06:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a question - is there a protocol for placing an illegitimate child's name in a family tree when the biological father's name is known? Should it be his tree.......or...?

I should know this but I'm afraid I don't.

Derbyshire / Breach of Promise action
« on: Tuesday 12 November 13 11:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

May I ask a very direct question, please?

Is it possible to find out the full name of a fellow who was subject of a Breach of Promise action in Derbyshire in 1892? The incident took place in Mellor, Derbyshire, and the court case was conducted at Liverpool Assizes. The proceedings were published in several local newspapers late December 1892.

Would it be acceptable for me to name names in this Forum?

Your thoughts, please.

Warwickshire / Who were Edward Mammatt's parents??
« on: Tuesday 04 June 13 08:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I'm trying to repair a seriously damaged family tree that I thought was OK.

I need to know (from sound evidence) who the parents of my 2g grandfather, Edward Mammatt, were. I know that Edward married Amelia Tomlinson  31 March 1823, Aston Juxta Birmingham and I know the history from there on, except Edward's death date  I do know that this was pre 1834, as Amelia had remarried by that date.
There are, I think, several Edward Mammatts who might fit, but WHO is THE one?? How sound is the record?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this, please?

The Common Room / How to identify defendant in a court case.
« on: Saturday 16 February 13 03:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying to find out the christian name of the gentleman(?) named as the defendant in a "Breach of Promise" court case reported, among other places, in the Blackburn Standard, on Saturday, 17 December, 1892. The court proceedings were at the Liverpool Assizes, and the litigants' names were Jowett (defendant) / Clara Potts (plaintiff). No christian name is given for Mr. Jowett and this is what I wish to know. I believe the parties concerned were residents of Mellor in Derbyshire.
Any suggestions, please?
