Somerset / AJBF
« on: Saturday 10 September 22 14:25 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for information regarding AJBF. He was born in 1932 (4th quarter), in Axbridge, Somerset. He was the eldest child to parents Ernest Arthur John Byrne Fluck (b. 28.04.1903), and Alice Mary Gosling. We are trying to trace his death details.

An ancestor of the family strongly believes that he died at an early age but does not know when or where. I appreciate that this is less than 100 years, however, it is believed that he is no longer alive.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / John Holland born 1808
« on: Tuesday 26 October 21 13:38 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help with the information, please, regarding the parents of John Holland, born 1808 in Sheffield?

There are two possible baptisms listed at the Sheffield Cathedral; 1) born; 18 February 1808. bap; 20 March 1808 to John Holland (cutler), and Elizabeth. And 2) born 13 May 1808, to Mark Holland (scissorsmith), and Jane.

We know that he married Matha Scholes on 22 August 1830, in Handsworth, Sheffield. Records do not state his parent's names.

We are struggling to decipher which baptism record (if either), is correct, and we appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Canada / W.Robertson - Newspaper Articles Haileybury/Muskoko
« on: Friday 03 April 20 08:44 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping that someone can help me please in regards to searching for old newspapers in the Ontario region.

Would someone be able to do a search for me or point me in the right direction on where to look online?

I am searching for a former football/soccer player called W.Robertson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Robertson). From further research, I believe that he died in Muskoka, Ontario on 31st October 1911; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9TF-Q93H-2?i=837&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AJ6FY-ZF8.

The entry on the Wikipedia page suggests that he was in Haileybury region in 1908, and I would like to locate this article, or any others which may have been printed about him and confirm he was in the area due to soccer related.

Being from UK, I am not familiar with the region nor what newspapers covered each area at the time.

Lanarkshire / Birth - William Robertson
« on: Tuesday 31 March 20 19:46 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for a birth of a William Robertson. I had put this request upon the Angus part of the site but now appears as though I had made an error and he was probably born in Glasgow, 1865.

The initial thread can be found at; https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=827922.msg6920350#msg6920350

After turning to FamilySearch it appeared that it was the incorrect William I was looking at, and in fact, the William I was searching for had died in Ontario on 21st October 1911, aged 46; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J6FY-ZF8

Records show that he was single but had a brother, Daniel Robertson, living at 211 Globe Street, Dundee.

I am searching for registration of birth for William as well as any other information that can be supplied (i.e. 1871, 1881, and 1881 census, although the latter he is likely to be in Sheffield).

Thanks in advance.

I believe that he is the W.Robertson who was a footballer for Sheffield United and am trying to find more information regarding his birth.

Canada Lookup Request / W.Robertson - Shipping Information + 1911 census
« on: Thursday 26 March 20 10:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Thank you in advance for taking a look at this thread.

In late 2011 I posted on RootsChat (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=563642.0), asking for information regarding a former Sheffield United (English football/soccer), player called W. Robertson. Very little information is/was known about him, other than he came from Dundee, Scotland, and played for the club between 1889-1891. He was playing in Dundee before moving to Sheffield, who signed several Scottish players. But after playing for the club little information is known about him.

In 2012 I did contact someone who gave a little information regarding 1911 census; The Canadian census of 1911 has a W.M. Robertson, born June 1866 (age 45) living in Haileybury.  His wife's name is Agness, born January 1868 (age 43) and there is one son - Arthur - born January 1901 (age 10).

What I am looking for is the actual records of the 1911 census, as well as any shipping reports which record him cross over the Atlantic, from either Scotland or England to Ontario.

I am grateful for any information anyone can help me with please.

Durham / Dora/Dorothy Stone-Barrett
« on: Monday 13 January 20 20:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am hoping that you can help me trace some information regarding Dora/Dorothy Stone-Barrett. I've started off in the Durham section (as this is where she was born), but in truth I haven't really got a clue as to where to start.

I am seeking your help in finding a newspaper report on Dora Stone-Barrett. I am researching a family tree for a friend of mine, who is looking for further information regarding a trial, and quite possibly a prison sentence.

Dora as born 13th. June 1915 Lanchester, Co. Durham under the name of Dora Stewart. On the 28th. December 1935 she married Charles William Stone-Barrett, although for some unknown reason she called herself Dorothy Stewart.

They had the following children:
Removed 1936 Lanchester,
Removed 1939 Durham North Western,
Removed 1940 Durham North Western,
Removed 1943 Newcastle,
Removed 1946 Richmond, Yorkshire,
Removed 1948 Richmond, Yorkshire,
Removed 1950 Richmond and,
Removed 1953 Newcastle.

It is believed that she had a bust-up with her husband. Hitting him over the head with something and nearly killing him and she received a prison sentence. It is also believed that she was pregnant at the time and they split up. She died May 1994 in the Lancaster area under the name of Dora Stone-Barrett.

I wonder if there are any newspaper reports on the trial although I cannot say where and when.  I can only presume that it happened before the birth of her last child in 1952/53, Her birth is registered 1st q. 1953. I have access top British Library Newspapers (which only go up to 1950), and The Times newspapers - neither have found anything relating to any incident.

If this story did happen. Given the nature that it would have been a sentenced based in today's terms as ABH, would this have been BIG enough to make the tabloids - possibly not! Therefore I was wondering if there are any other external resources which I could try that mind unearth something?

Thank you in advance for any help offered.
