Good Morning,
Thought I would pop in and share what happened yesterday.
I saw a post by a lady of a tatty Boys Brigade Membership Card. Glanced over it and didn't really pay much attention but then I saw some suggestions of how this ladys father may have come across this wee card and I decided to have a closer look and discovered it has my great grand uncles name and address - Alexander Mathieson Clark, 78 Great Northern Road, Aberdeen! The strange thing is this card was obviously hand made and not the standard printed membership card and it had the address as Tamakan POW Camp Thailand. I have attached a link to a public Album I have made for folks to take a look. I was lucky enough to then find via Google the Questionnaire my GG Uncle would have filled in on his return detailing the camps he was held in etc.
The questionnaire shows he was captured 15/02/42 in Singapore, held in Nong Pladuc 30/6/42, Tamakan 06/05/43, Singapore 08/10/44 and Saigon 16/02/45.
Anyone shed any light on why they would have made this card?
My GG Uncle was in the 137 Field Reg RA. T.A. - No 907342 Rank Gnr.
I have heard a lot about the Hell Ships and the building of railways but not exactly sure what Alexander would have been involved in.
I have had a look on Ancestry and Forces War records but found anything - but that could just be me.
Any info would be great.
Regards
Christine
