New Zealand Completed Requests / CLARK - Scotland to New Zealand
« on: Monday 21 October 19 02:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

Getting back into my family tree and have hit the brick wall. I have my great uncle ALFRED HODSON CLARK born Aberdeen 1917 and his wife Margretta Hyslop Dempster McMillan born 1919. I have them from birth, marriage, through the war and electoral rolls until 1970 then they appear to move to Horowhenua Manawatu-Wanganui approx 1970 - 1981. This is where Ancestry stops.  This couple would be 102 and 100 years old this year. I know its possible that they may still be alive so there are no more records to find. I did find a record on NZ Company Directory for their son but I think the company has ceased trading. Any suggestions where else I can try?

Many thanks

London and Middlesex / GRANT/HOBBS/AKEN Help finding marriage or death record
« on: Tuesday 25 March 14 11:09 GMT (UK)  »
A family friend is trying to trace his cousin but has had no luck in the past 20+ years.

The details we have are as follows:

Alexander Grant born 1917 at 6 Ugie Street, Peterhead. His parents were Ann Jane Grant ( Sangster, aged 24 ) & Alexander Skene Grant ( Aged 50 ) Sawyer / Graveyard Lodge-keeper's Assistant ,on 29th Sept. 1916 in The Manse, Peterhead.

Alexander Grant married Mary Hobbs or Aken
Marriages Jun 1942
Grant    Alexander    Aken    Edmonton    3a   2842
Marriages Jun 1942
Grant    Alexander    Hobbs    Edmonton    3a   2842

Mary Hobbs/Aken Grant dies 27th Feb 1980 at North Middlesex Hosp. The death is registered by Hospital.

The cousin is J******* A** Grant born 1947
Births Dec 1947
Grant    *    Aken    Edmonton    5e   547.

My friend has ordered approx 15 to 20 marriage certs but sadly has ever come across one to match his cousin.

I have searched marriages and deaths but not knowing married name or area I haven't had much more success than my friend.

As you will see they were not a particularly close family meeting like most at family weddings and funerals. Alexander would regularly mention his daughter and her husband but never gave any details of names of where in England they lived.

I know its tricky as his cousin (hopefully) is still alive. I hope the details provided are allowed but please edit as necessary.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

World War Two / Unexpected find - Thailand POW
« on: Wednesday 08 January 14 10:11 GMT (UK)  »
Good Morning,

Thought I would pop in and share what happened yesterday.

I saw a post by a lady of a tatty Boys Brigade Membership Card. Glanced over it and didn't really pay much attention but then I saw some suggestions of how this ladys father may have come across this wee card and I decided to have a closer look and discovered it has my great grand uncles name and address - Alexander Mathieson Clark, 78 Great Northern Road, Aberdeen! The strange thing is this card was obviously hand made and not the standard printed membership card and it had the address as Tamakan POW Camp Thailand. I have attached a link to a public Album I have made for folks to take a look. I was lucky enough to then find via Google the Questionnaire my GG Uncle would have filled in on his return detailing the camps he was held in etc.

The questionnaire shows he was captured 15/02/42 in Singapore, held in Nong Pladuc 30/6/42, Tamakan 06/05/43, Singapore 08/10/44 and Saigon 16/02/45.

Anyone shed any light on why they would have made this card?

My GG Uncle was in the 137 Field Reg RA. T.A. - No 907342 Rank Gnr.

I have heard a lot about the Hell Ships and the building of railways but not exactly sure what Alexander would have been involved in.

I have had a look on Ancestry and Forces War records but found anything - but that could just be me.

Any info would be great.

Regards

Christine

Hi everyone, I hope you will be able to help restore this picture of my late parents. As you will see there are a few blotches spoiling it - probably by me as a child with sticky fingers :/

Thank you

Aberdeenshire / Grandholm Mills
« on: Thursday 12 May 11 15:52 BST (UK)  »
My late mother used to work at Grandholm Mills back in the 60s is there any group/site/forum for the Mills? the only thing I can find is a few site with photos of the old buildings.

I have loads of photos from her time there and would love to be able to maybe share them with the people she would have worked along side.

My mother was Helen Barbara Wallace. b1949 - d 1993. I assume she would have been 16 when she started there and there until 1970/1971

Many thanks
