Cheshire Lookup Requests / Hough family query
« on: Sunday 13 February 22 15:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I wonder if I could have a fresh pair of eyes please to help me find the correct person from the information below:

Christopher Hough born 1885 Northwich - parents are John & Alice (nee Barlow)
John born 1852 Castle Northwich to John & Mary (nee Starkey)

Now my problem starts. According to census records, John (snr) was born around 1814, there are 2 John Houghs on a parish baptisms search on FindMyPast, 1 born then to Samuel & Mary, baptised in Weaverham, the other born in 1816 to Ralph & Mary in Middlewich. To confuse matters even more, I've found baptism records for 2 of John's children which stated hsi parents as William & Sarah but can find no record of them having a son called John in this time frame in Cheshire. I have Samuel & Mary on my tree but daren't go any further back until I can establish if these are definitely the correct parents.
Any help/thoughts would be appreciated

Shropshire / Sheward look up request
« on: Monday 27 July 15 19:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Is there a kind soul out there who could do a look up for me please?

I would like to find out the details of the marriage between John Sheward born c1660, probably in Stottesdon but that's not definite & Alice ??? I think the surname is either Jennings or Hamond as there are 2 births registered in 1660 in Stottesdon in the same year according to FindMyPast. Sheward could be spelt as Seward. The eldest child was born in 1683 in Stottesdon so I'm guessing the marriage took place around 1682.

FindMyPast records are pretty good for Shropshire but by no means complete.

Many thanks

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Shropshire family surname query
« on: Monday 02 March 15 19:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have traced the Sheward family back to the 17th century in Stottesdon, Shropshire. I have done a search on Thomas Sheward births for around 1660 & been offered a baptism record for a Thomas Shuart. I've had a look to see if this was an early derivative of Sheward but the sites offered mainly seem to be American sites with what looks like Shuart still being an active surname.

A bit of a shot in the dark, but has anyone else come across this or can give me any clues please.

Herefordshire / Evans famiy help needed
« on: Saturday 19 March 11 18:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help please.

I am trying to find more information on George Evans, who was born (I belive) in 1798 (but this could be anywhere in the 1790s according to which census you look at), in Clun, Shropshire.

He married Ann Holland in Brampton  Bryan, Herefordshire in 1831, and lived at Stapleton's Hill, Willey with his 8 children until he died in 1851.

Is there anyone  researching this family, who can help both with his age, and with verifying his parents. I am already in touch with a distant cousin from this branch of the family, and we are batting this backwards & forwards between us but coming up with more questions than we have answers.

I have already asked on the Shropshire board, but had no response.

Best wishes

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Evans family of Clun
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Is there anyone out there researching George Evans, born in Clun?

If not, can anyone either help or put my request on a list for when they are next doing a visit to the Shropshire archives.

I am looking for George Evans. Depending on which census you look at as well as the LDS site, he was born sometime after 1791. The general thought that a fellow researcher and myself have is that it is 1798, and that his parents may have been Isiah and Ann. However, we are very hesitant to follow this line for definite, due to the discrepancy we are finding with the YOBs. We are taking into account factors such as the age being rounded to the nearest 5 years & LDS not always being very accurate, so would like some definite proof first. We also believe he may have a brother James, also born in Clun.

Any help/definite proof we can be given would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Herefordshire / Brace First Name confusion
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 15:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I don't know if anyone can help with this.

I am trying to trace whether Edward Brace, born 1845, Staunton-on-Wye, son of Edward & Margaret (nee Williams) was actually called Edward or Albert Edward.

I don't have his birth certificate, but have found a possible match through findmypast for Edward, plus the census records all say Edward.

However, I know he married Sarah Evans, and on that record it shows Albert Edward Brace, as it does on the birth certificate for one of his children, Bedford Edward.

I suspect this might mean trawling through baptism records, but I don't live anywhere near Herefordshire.

If anyone can shed any light on this, I would appreciate it.

Australia / Ancestor in Australia-thought to be in NZ
« on: Wednesday 06 October 10 15:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am researching an ancestor who emigrated from Wales, supposedly to New Zealand. However, on finding a copy of his ship's passage, I have found that he left originally for Sydney. Below are the details of both the person concerned and the ship he sailed on. Can anyone pick up the trail please, as I have found his death registered in NZ in 1935, but would like to know what happened in the meantime:

Jonas Palfrey Havard (might be Harvard in records). Born 1887, Herefordshire, England, but was liviing in Wales at time of departure.
Sailed from Liverpool on 1 June 1912 aboard "Runic", bound for Sydney.

I also know he was married to Violet (Pritchard), but again don't know where he was living when this took place.

Any help please.

Best wishes

The Common Room / Marriage certificate query
« on: Monday 27 September 10 15:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm putting this on here as I'm not sure where else to ask the question; the location is irrelevant to this query.

I have the original copy of my grandparents marriage certificate, showing they were married in 1926, which I know is correct. However the certificate was not dated until 16th October 1934, and, as my grandfather was killed in an accident on 5th October 1934, I cant think why there should be this delay.

Has anyone else come across this at all?
