Armed Forces / Help with attestation record
« on: Wednesday 05 July 23 23:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me understand this? Does it mean he was in service until 1937? If so what does the 1924 line relate to?

Thanks!

Hi,

Looking for help finding info on Alfred 1902 and William 1903 Bailey, sons of Thomas Bailey and Harriett Burchell. I have them both up to 1921 (I think) but any info on marriage, army service if any and deaths.

Thanks!

Lanarkshire / Barr/Stoddart family, Glasgow
« on: Thursday 25 September 14 18:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have already found a tree with the names in it on Ancestry and contacted them, but just in case anyone else is related ..

I have found a family bible belonging to the Barr family of Glasgow. It details Thomas Barr (c. 1847 - 1916) and Elizabeth Stoddart (c. 1843 - 1922), along with their children.

My own research shows Thomas was a son of Samuel Barr & Elizabeth Oatt. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Stoddart & Margaret Provan.

Anyone related or interested in these names, let me know. :) It would be nice to see something like this go back to the family.

Armed Forces / Help understanding service record
« on: Friday 15 August 14 00:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Found a service record for David Brown, b. 1844 Dunbar, army service 1862 to [I think] 1898.

Although I've managed to get some information from the record on FindMyPast, I'm struggling with the statement of service. A lot of it is abbreviations and difficult to follow.

Just wondered if anyone could help follow it and give me an idea of what David did during his long army career.

Thanks

Lanarkshire / House in Bothwell
« on: Thursday 09 August 12 17:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Anyone from Bothwell or nearby that can help out?

My 5x great-grandfather moved from Glasgow to Bothwell between 1841 and 1851, probably to retire I would think. He first stayed in Sweethope House which I've been able to locate fine but he then moves from there to Rosebank (or Rose Bank). The censuses over the years suggest it is/was what is now the Uddingston Road area but it's not listed on any old maps or current directories that I can see.

The only thing I do have is a photograph that in amongst this family's other pictures. I have then tried to find a similar building on Street View. Luckily I did come across one similar but I can't find any confirmation.

Building on Street View: http://goo.gl/maps/qYNsl

Attached is the photograph below.

I'm just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the SV building .. whether it's changed name, owner, perhaps even some history? Anything would be great.

Thanks
