Lincolnshire / Ridleys of Lincoln
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 13:27 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the birth of my ancestor, Jemima Ridley, born 1815 in  Lincoln, Lincolnshire (according to the census).

Her marraige certificate in 1850 shows her father as Watts Ridley, Manufacturer. Unfortunately I've drawn a blank with him, too.

She moved to East Retford, Notts,  then Brighton after her marraige.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Local knowledge Eling/Copythorne
« on: Friday 06 April 07 21:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

My grandmother always said that her family came from Copythorne in the New Forest, and her birth certificate confirms it (in 1897).  On the census I've found her family in Eling.

I visited Copythorne a while ago and a motorway ran through it.  However, I've just been to Eling and its a beautiful village with a Tide Mill.  I'm not a local person so I'm somewhat confused.

If my ancestors lived in Copythorne would it appear as Eling on the census?

Can anyone explain it to me please?

Lincolnshire / Ridley, Manufacturer
« on: Sunday 31 December 06 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
My ancester was Jemima Ridley (b. 1815) who states she was born in Lincoln, Linconshire, and on her marraige certificate (to Thomas Oliver) that her father was Watts Ridley, Manufacturer.

I've tried very hard to locate a Watts Ridley, but failed, so I'm now at the proverbial 'brick wall'.

The only other clue I have is that the witnesses to her wedding in Churchill, Oxfordshire, were Thomas and Mercy Ridley, also of Churchill, Oxfordshire.

Has anyone any ideas - any help would be really appreciated.

Devon / William MAYNARD - Nolling Bushel
« on: Tuesday 12 December 06 16:07 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor, William Maynard tinman, states that he was born in Nolling Bushel, Devonshire on the 1851 census, and had died by the 1861 census.

Has anyone ever heard of this place, or something that may sound like it?

Any help would be appreciated.
