Australia / Joseph Hastings
« on: Friday 26 July 19 12:13 BST (UK)  »
I am after any information on Joseph Hastings born c1832 Lincoln, England, who arrived in South Australia in 1859 and married Eliza Hannan (Elizabeth Hannah?) in November 1859 Adelaide.   His occupation in the UK was Boilermaker.  I have details of his life in England but no information on him after his arrival in Australia.

I have a death certificate for a James Herbert Piper who died in 1930 age 40 at the Infantry barracks in York.
I have his medal card which gives this information, I know it is his as it confirms his death date.
T/26498 -Driver - Army Service Corps
42829 -Driver - Worcestershire Regiment
5239968- Driver Northumberland Fusiliers

Is there anywhere other than applying for his records from the MOD (presuming they have them as he died 1930)  that I may obtain a date and place of birth for him

Thank you,

Rosie

From the GRO website today,  I can't see this posted anywhere else, please delete if it is.

General Register Office (GRO) - PDF Extended Pilot

The GRO is piloting a service from 12 October 2017 to provide portable document format (PDF) copies of digitised historical birth and death records. The pilot will run for a minimum of 3 months to enable GRO to assess the demand for this service over a prolonged period.

Applications for each PDF cost £6, must be made online, and include a GRO index reference.

England and Wales records which are available as PDFs in this extended pilot include:

Births: 1837 –1916
Deaths: 1837 –1957

PDF Pilot Phase 3

We are trialling a service from 16 March to provide PDF copies of our non-digitised records. Records will not be immediately viewable, but emailed as a PDF.

Applications for each PDF cost £8, must be made online and include a GRO index reference.

England and Wales records which are available as PDF's in pilot 3 include:
Births: 1935-2006
Deaths: 1958-2006
Marriages: 1837-2010

Full details are in About the PDF Pilot

Note: A PDF is not a certificate and has no value for services where a certificate is required e.g. a Passport or Driving Licence application, or Notice of Marriage

Pilot phase 3 closes at 4pm on 12 April or when 40,000 PDF's have been ordered, whichever is sooner. Analysis of the pilot will then follow.
