Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Bedford St Paul marriage 1708
« on: Tuesday 09 July 19 13:18 BST (UK)  »
There's a marriage showing on the Pedigree Resource File of FamilySearch, but not on what used to be the IGI. I don' trust Pedigree Resource File!

24 May 1708 at Bedford St Paul. John Robinson and Ann Day.

If anyone has the transcript or is going into Bedford Library, I'd be very grateful for a lookup in the transcript to see if the marriage is real. If it says they were of Roxton it would be a bonus!

Many thanks in advance

David (quiet these days but still alive!)

Kent / Leah Birch, baptised in Adisham
« on: Saturday 20 August 16 16:53 BST (UK)  »
I’m trying to help a cousin with her maternal grandmother.  Leah Birch married Francis Milton on 19 May 1923 at Aston Hertfordshire “Francis Lionel Milton bachelor 39 Greenkeeper, of Aston, father John Milton (dec'd) labourer & Leah Birch 32 spinster of Stevenage father unknown.”  So I thought she was probably illegitimate.

In the 1939 register living in Knebworth Herts, Leah gives her date of birth as 8 July 1890, which ties in with her death age of 65 on 24 July 1955 in Hitchin Herts, residence still Knebworth.

There are birth registrations of three Leah Birchs in 1891, in Birmingham (Aston, but not the Aston where she married), Nottingham and Bolton, all of whom I’ve eliminated as not being “my” Leah.

I’ve found who I believe to be her, living in Acton in 1911, a servant, age 20, born Faversham Kent, indexed on Ancestry as Leah Borch but it looks like Birch to me. I have a copy of a baptism entry of a Leah Birch in Adisham Kent, 16 miles from Faversham, on 5 Apr 1891 but with no parents mentioned. In the 1891 census taken on the same day in Adisham there’s a Birch whose age of 7 months was first entered in the female column, then added to the male column, with the name transcribed on Ancestry as Scath and on FindMyPast as Seath which looks to me like a transcription error for Leath ie Leah. She was a nurse child with the Linkin family, with birthplace not known. The Linkins also had another nurse child living with them who was still with in 1901. But I can’t find Leah in 1901.

I have no idea what sort of records may have been kept by the parishes, but presumably someone must have paid the Linkins for taking in children. My next step will be to contact the local archives to see if there’s anything in Adisham parish chest.

It’s been suggested that as no parents were mentioned on her baptism entry she may have been a foundling and the name Leah Birch may have been a made up name, which would stop my research dead in it’s tracks!

Is it coincidence that there were other Birchs living in Adisham in 1891?

Any flashes of inspiration will be gratefully received.

Francis Sayre originated in Podington, born 1567-72, and then appeared in Leighton Buzzard as a mercer, where he married in 1591, and baptised 14/15 children between 1592 and 1616. The PR is apparently deficient after 1614.

If someone happens to be in the Archives between cruises I'd be very grateful for a look up for the following:

Dunstable - marriage 16 Jun 1635 between Sar Merick & Frances Hurdidg (per IGI extracted). Is this really what is written, as there should be a marriage in about 1635 between Tobias Seare/Sayre and a Frances as they started baptising children there in 1636. I wonder if something got mangled in the translation and Sar is actually Seare. Straw clutching time!

Dunstable - burial in 1679 of Francis Seare - is there any more detail eg son of Tobias or even wife of Tobias?

Leighton Buzzard - is there a burial of Francis Seare c 1645? The NBI doesn't seem to have any burials before 1653 in LB, which may be the deficiency referred to.

Many thanks in advance

David.

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Eynesbury parish register look up please
« on: Sunday 07 December 14 20:06 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to Eynesbury parish register I'd be grateful for a look up for the marriage of Edward Hull and Martha Pope which took place in Eynesbury in 1811 per Hunts Marriage Index.

I believe this couple had a daughter Martha Hull born 1811-13 in Eynesbury according to censuses, who was my 3xg grandmother.  Is there a baptism for her? (I know from her second, 1858, marriage that her father was Edward).

Many thanks in advance

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / Maria SABEY from Blunham
« on: Thursday 14 November 13 08:27 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst looking at the Ushers from Sandy and Cople I came across the marriage of Henry Usher to Maria Sabey in Blunham on 21 Oct 1832. Maria was buried in 1838 (don't have exact date, my NBI CD is cracked) in Blunham age 25 having baptised a daughter Mary Ann Usher on 31 May 1835.

She's new to me! I can't find a baptism for her and whilst I have a theory or two, I don't know who her parents were. In all probability she was a daughter of one of the children of Tingey Sabey who baptised a number of children in Blunham, most likely John Tingey Sabey who married Elizabeth Clark on 30 Jun 1811 but whose first child wasn't baptised in Blunham in 1819.

If someone is bored with sitting in the garden watching the leaves drop off the miniature acer could kindly have a look in the Archives to see who the witnesses were at the 1832 marriage.

If she's who I think she might be then she'd be my 3rd cousin five times removed so she's very vaguely connected to me!

Many thanks in advance

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Marriage Index - Linton 1816
« on: Thursday 10 October 13 16:06 BST (UK)  »
There's a marriage in Linton in 1816 between Thomas Hand and Sarah Graves. If anyone has the Marriage Index and could let me know if there are any other details I'd be very grateful.

Part of a fishing trip - see http://www.rootschat.com/links/0wgl/

Thanks in advance

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Baptism Index - John Levitt - Littleport
« on: Thursday 11 April 13 08:02 BST (UK)  »
If anyone has access to the Baptism Index I'd be very grateful for a lookup for two John Levitt/Lavitt baptisms in Littleport. According to the 1851 one should have been born c1780. and the other 1792-95. Possibly too short a gap between them to have been father and son but both lived in Fleet, Lincs at different times.

Many thanks in advance

The IGI extracted  has a marriage at Shillington on 26 March 1803 between William LUCAS and Ann GOZLEY. I'm hoping that William was from Henlow. Henlow banns are missing for this period. If anyone has access to the Shillington transcript I'd be very grateful for a lookup to see what the parishes of residence were shown as.

Many thanks in advance

David

The IGI extracted  has a marriage at Meppershall on 26 Nov 1779 between Simon LUCAS and Martha PARROTT. Simon wasn't from Meppershall, and Martha may not have been either. If anyone has access to the transcript I'd be very grateful for a lookup to see if parishes of residence other than Meppershall were given. Hitchin would be very acceptable!

Many thanks in advance

David
